American Gas Co Lantern

Postby bjeppson » Thu Oct 25, 2012 12:25 pm

As another said, this forum has me looking in all the odd places for antique camping equipment. Here is one I just found though I have no idea of what it is other than a gas lantern which appears to be made out of brass. The manufacturer is American Gas Co. on the label.

Does anyone have info on this?

Bob

Those things are dangerous. As I am only a little over an hour away from you, I volunteer to come get it for proper disposal. 8)

Thanks,

I found out this is a model 101 and was only manufactured by AGM for one year 1933-34. Now to see which fuel it takes and secure a few parts, ie the leather on the pump.

Great lantern Bob, Have you tried soaking the leather in some oil first? Many times they are just dried out.

I'd pressure test that fount first before you build a fire in it. Some of the brass founts were known to eventually get stress cracks in them. Just an idea. Doug

Thanks for the heads up on the preasure testing. I am new to the terminology, is the fount the "tank"? I came by a forum on classic preasure lamps and heaters. I posted the picture there as well and someone posted this catalog description.
