Coleman Lantern - Advice needed

Postby notned » Mon Nov 19, 2012 1:32 pm

Hello All, I got a lantern at a yard sale. I thought my eight dollars was a score. Turned out that it wasn't really. It does this sputtering thing. My friend says the tank is corroded. He's flushed five or six times and it still gets plugged.

Do we know where to get new tanks? Any other advice?

Before replacing the tank I would try a few more things. I would tear the lantern down and make sure that the Fuel and Air tube is open and clean. Sometimes the small hole gets plugged with varnish from the fuel be sure to stretch the spring slightly also. Now would be a good time to check out the inside of the fount. Use a small amount of fuel and a handful of BB's to get the crud out of the tank. Is the generator clean and cardboard or spring on place? Also make sure to spin the tip cleaner. It could be so many things that make it sputter. I like to take them apart and cover all the bases to get them running. Here is a link to how to take it apart and rebuild it. http://www.oldcolemanparts.com/resources/re_2lant.php Good Luck! Also let us know how it works out.
