Coleman #2 Stove

Postby Lazybones » Thu Dec 06, 2012 9:08 pm

I bought a nice stove on ebay the other night. I cant believe how little I had to pay for it. The shipping was a bit high. But: I'm still happy.

It is much nicer than the description or pictures show.

It came with all of the shelving and a new generator for some other stove. Looks like a HGP maybe.

Here is a link to the auction.

Nice you got one with the oven. I've got a regular 2D without the oven. What's the plan...restore it? Doug

Good score Lee. If you were in the market for an old stove you should have told me. I have one you could fix up.

Not sure yet Doug. I don't have the paint equipment to do it right.
For now I will just try to get it going.

Great score Lee, Don't be afraid to do a rattle can restoration. There are a lot of
good quality paints available, just be prepared to give it more time to
cure properly.

Lee....I've gotten away with engine block paint on the ovens. The high temp paints are going to be flat. It'll smoke a bit when you first fire it up, but I've after that they're good to go once they have a good cure on them. I've run my 2E with the oven up to 500 to "smoke it off" and it didn't peel any paint and was good to go for baking after that. The thing is, the engine block paint won't give you a super gloss. It's not matte, or flat, but just not as good as a catalyzed paint, but they can't handle the heat...good for only like 180F. Don't prime on the oven portion. The typical primers can't handle the heat. Just what I've learned. Doug
