And they drink kerosene....Found this two babies all alone in Peru last December, I could not say no, repaired one (The German one), and I am waiting for parts for the Portuguese one, the German one I believe is from 1939, but I could be wrong. The Portuguese one I have been told is between 1954 and 1964..



It took me a long time to shine them up, but they are blinding bright.

I have a Hipolito 500CP as well. And it works great.
Still working on the aida.... Never ends with repairs on that one.

I did my homework on this girls:

full blown cleaning, inside and out
had to fabricate a calibrated block ( 14.2 mm) to set the J tube for proper distance

New foot valves
new lead gaskets
new NRV valve seal
new leather in pump
new preheater valve seals
ordered a couple of pump leather spreaders from and they work really good. now It pumps to limits on 50/80 strokes instead of 120 or more.

the Hipolito had a serious problem with the preheater, the tip is oversized and deformed, the body of the "trigger"it is bent and will not center on the gas tip,tried to fix it unsuccessfully, so I ordered a new one from http://hytta.de/petromax/index.htm

I am burning kero almost daily...has not been cheap, but all the parts for two lanterns ( including the lanterns) are still half the cost of what I would have paid for a single one have I had bought them on the evil bay.
