My first gas lantern

Postby BillZ » Sun Mar 03, 2013 3:21 pm

I have been searching all winter for a good condition older Coleman lantern. They are pretty scarce around here! The only ones I had found so far were at an antique shop near the DC line and he wanted $70+ for well used ones.

I found a guy on craigslist selling this near-mint 64' 228F big hat and bought it today. It looks like it's hardly ever been used and has no scratches or dents. I paid $39 so not a great buy but a fair price from what I have seen.

-Question; On the bottom it says "9 Model 220F, 228F 64" Is it considered a 220F or 228F?

This will finish my transition from modern propane pieces to white gas. Bought some gas and a small fuel canister at REI today. Now I just have to practice lighting my new toys.

I am so ready to start camping.

Nice lantern, welcome to the club. You have a 228 Big Hat there. They are one of my favorites. Good luck lighting ! :applause:

Yup, thats a 228F. Looks like it has hardly been used. I like my Fs. They are some of the easiest starters that I have. Well at least the one that I use a lot. It seems like it is my go to lantern. Oil up that pump leather and make some light.

Looks like a good clean lantern Bill

Are you coming to the Goosenest next weekend?

I'm bringing a few of my lanterns along. Some havent been fired up since I cleaned them, so hopefully they'll light without any trouble! :worship:

Probably will not be at the Goose Nest. :(
Too much going on with work right now. I will want to check your lanterns out next outing.
