426b repainted font with a paint brush and heavy red paint.

Postby slowcowboy » Wed Apr 16, 2014 6:41 am

I picked up in feb a 3 burner 426B and its got a font on it that someone tried to repaint in heavy red paint with what is ohbovois a paint brush! its even got the brass parts and the valve wheel coated in this red junk and I am slowly with steel wool and ebowe greese peeling it off the brass parts to the generator and valve wheel.

I got a rusty but not bad just normal gas tank or font and this red junk to get off the font.

what do I peel this red paint off the font with to properly repaint it with? might try to get photos up later.

the rest of the stove is in good shape so it won't need stripping just some warm days and some hunter green.

I got some time though into the burners and some steel wool work as they are in need of some rust removal.

If the tank is that bad Mike, hit it with some paint stripper and start over.

No paint stripper, it is a semi paste that you brush on.

I stripped the entire hood of a '75 Cadillac with this stuff: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Klean-Strip- ... 5yc1vZc5bq

It really does work in about 15 minutes. If you happen to have some old brake fluid laying around, that will work, also. Just not quite as fast.

If you haven't tried the paint stripper yet, put the fount in an old crock pot and cook it for a few hours, it should loosen the thick brushed on paint without damaging the original paint below or other parts.
