Unusual Designs Found on Internet

I especially like the zigzag roof RV, very similar to a foamie that I've got plans for.

I like the Zigzag configuration too. While building the (first version of ) Tip Top Tier Drop, I considered the half roof dormer configuration, like this one

because it reduced the effort needed to lift the combined roofs from the rear, but it also shifted too much of the weight forward of the axle. I also worried about highway lift, wind and rain the front edge of the top roof had to deal with when closed. In the end the gains did not seem to warrant the added complexity.

Notice the commercial trailer

has a solid roof and fabric sides. I prefer the exact opposite. But if you are OK with fabric sides, I think it would not be hard to build. For one, the fabric sides have no complex pattern to sew.

How are your plans progressing?

Well I got pretty far in sketchup. This is my 'big' trailer a wild goose in foam. It is on the shelf for now. Instead My first build is going to be a much simpler Foamie, closer to a Kenskill . A one person sleeper vs a three plus person lifting roof with amenities.

Interesting Trailer, Interesting Brake

Sorry, the links below have gone bad.

Note: Picture too big for your window ?? Try this: Hold down "CTRL" and hit MINUS SIGN several times. To return to normal size font, use CTRL & "+" (plus sign).

This is cute, but I can see myself chasing the roof down wind after forgetting to never have both sides unhooked at the same time ...

Yes, the Eco-tourer is interesting. Australia has a lot of interesting folding trailers. I think the EziVan is also from down under.

Douglas Fir lift roof slide-in

Postby WizardOfOdds » Tue Jul 26, 2016 11:15 pm

How much wood would a wood trucker truck, ....
apparently 1200#s. Made with 2x6 solid Douglas Fir planks, plywood delamination is not a worry.

more on Double Side 3x Expansion

Postby WizardOfOdds » Tue Aug 02, 2016 9:09 am

When I first posted (page 1) the CAD picture of this design, I never expected to see actual hardware in action. But here it is

and here is a full tour
or catch the slide show from here

It may look like a simple idea, but start thinking over the details of actually getting one to work

They sent a reply indicating they will have a version that is on a trailer instead of the hitch; IIRC. I think that would be great for cars that don't have hitches that conform to the requirements of this camper.

side opening clamshell

Postby WizardOfOdds » Wed Aug 17, 2016 8:44 pm

This side opening clamshell seems to use fabric for the opened sides. Top might be a heavy lift (even though the top section is shorter than the bottom - why??), so foam might be a good choice for the top tier. The protruding door frame & slanted wall could be avoided by some mods, but I like it the way it is. For better highway airflow, consider beveling the top end(s).

This is a custom made aluminum lifting roof trailer.

Building thread of its structure is here: http://www.ranger-forums.com/fabrication-tool-tech-42/off-road-hard-sided-popup-trailer-133614/page3/
Its roof is lifted by electric actuators in each corner, 4 total.
