Hi Dave, it was a lot easier than I expected. But you do want to get it done early in your build. First thing you need to do is get a NCX number for your trailer. You can go to the tag office and ask for one, they will give you a form with your number on it(basically a vin number for your trailer) i think it costs $5. Then you have to stamp the number on the tongue and axle of your trailer. After it's stamped you have to get it inspected by the license and theft officer at the dmv. Once he signs off on it you take the form back to the tag office, pay your tag and title fee and your done. I got the multi year trailer tag, it costs a little more initially but you save over time.
I carried my trailer to the dmv before i had a floor or anything on it, and it was super easy. Just be prepared to spend around $150 for your tag and title fees...
