She would never say where she came from
Yesterday don't matter if it's gone
While the sun is bright
Or in the darkest night
No one knows
She comes and goes

Goodbye, ruby tuesday
Who could hang a name on you?
When you change with every new day
Still Im gonna miss you...

Don't question why she needs to be so free
Shell tell you it's the only way to be
She just can't be chained
To a life where nothings gained
And nothings lost
At such a cost

There's no time to lose, I heard her say
Catch your dreams before they slip away
Dying all the time
Lose your dreams
And you will lose your mind.
Aint life unkind?

Goodbye, ruby tuesday
Who could hang a name on you?
When you change with every new day
Still Im gonna miss you...
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is

Cliff I want to come over soon. My house is under contract and that has been cutting into my free time. I'd like to come over when you are working on yours. I could be an extra set of hands if you could use them. I plan to get my wood for my sides next Sat.

WELCOME ChunkyMonkey. You're in for a very satisfying and rewarding adventure. I think it is very cool that you are using your dad's trailer. You will no doubt be thinking of him as you build, and you'll be taking a part of him with you when you camp. That's awesome.

It looks like you're off to a great start. Keep the :pictures: coming. And any questions, as you can see all you need to do is ask and some kind soul (or several kind souls) will always be willing to jump in and answer!!

We had beautiful weather in the ATL yesterday and appears to be so today also. I made a bit of progress applying the waterproofing to the underside of the floor. I was really dreading this, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I had anticipated. I used the fence post asphalt 'Black Beauty' as seen used by my friend Cliff on the 'Black Hole'. It dried extremely fast and second coat went very fast.

Today I have to play Tennis so i will not work on the tear. Next weekend I plan to get the side wall ply. I'll then spend much time working on my profile outline.

Hope all you other builders are finding good weather. Looks like spring is here 'fo sho'.

Angela

Angela

:goodmorning:

Angela, when I was working out my profile I bought a cheap ($10) piece of luan underlayment and layed out the profile and door opening on that first and cut it out. After I had done so, I realized I didn't like the slope of the backend as much as I thought I would. Also I discovered I didn't like the shape or placement of my door but that wasn't really apparent to me until I cut it out, stood the wall up and crawled in and out of it and took a picture of it (actually the picture revealed to me that it didn't look that "balanced". I didn't really see that with my eye.) I made the adjustments on the luan. I have used it many times to figure out (and often change) the placement of different things. Since it's not my real wall I didn't mind drawing all over it. And it's much more durable and easier to handle than cardboard. Also, since I am building a sandwich wall, I keep using it over and over to trace the profile on different pieces. Only after I was sure I had the exact shape I wanted and had my other structures figured out did I put the saw to my real sidewalls. (Placement of other structures was important to me because I am building a sandwich wall.)

Depending on how you're constructing your wall this may or may not prove useful to you, but I thought I'd toss it out there.

Have fun with your tennis. It's a bike ride for me!!

Thank you Becky, That is very smart advice. I will definitely consider doing that. I plan to have solid 3/4" ply (MDO) but still would be smart to draw and cut the luaun board to perfect all shapes and cuts.

I have reviewed your work many times and loved the journaling you and so many have done for this site.

Keep the advice coming, I certainly can use it.

I do have a question for anyone who will answer. "If I plan to one day in the future apply aluminum to my TearDrop, will the paint i use initially cause any issues?" I plan to seal, prime and paint the exterior initially with a finish of the High performance Rustoleum enamel. Later I'd like to come back and skin with aluminum. Will it be easy to apply directly over the enamel without concern of expansion/contraction and can i easily remove my windows (prefab) to apply the aluminum skin?

Thanks Y'all

You might want to consider a non-hardening putty or other non-glue like sealant when installing your windows the first time. Might make it easier to get them out, as opposed to a hardening or bonding sealant that might tend to glue them in and be hard to cut away after the fact. I'm thinking of the grey HVAC putty that is pliable but not too tacky (I've always called it "Monkey Dung").

I'm sure others will have good or better suggestions on this.

Applying aluminum over the enamel shouldn't be a problem Angela, as most people advise just "floating" the aluminum anyway and only securing it with sealant and trim on the edges. Any of the 3M sealants, 4200 or 5200 will adhere to the enamel and the metal just fine. 5200 is more difficult to remove. I have known boaters who have had to use piano wire to cut off deck fittings that were secured down with 5200. If you use that, make sure you're not planning to go back and remove it!!

Well I've been distracted by many other events this spring, the best of which I finally sold my second house.

I have been working the past two weekends on my tear. Last week I purchased 3 sheets of 4x8 MDO 3/4. They are so smooth and will make an nice exterior surface for paint. I am stretching the sides by ripping the 3rd sheet (two 1 foot pieces from the 4' end, two 1 foot pieces from the remaing 4x6 piece. I am cutting a 1/4 in slot in the end pieces to join them. I got the first side glued today and have a few pictures to show.

After the glue dries I will begin cutting my profile. My CPES arrived this week. It's past time to order my hardware.

had to show my new Rockwell Bladerunner

Hopefully by tomorrow, i will have both sides glued with the extended isdes
