It got stupid cold and my attic doesn't have heat. But I got some things done recently. I also got my hitch on the Mazda and a transmission cooler installed. Here's a pic of us ice racing.

I finally picked up my galley hinge from TC Teardrops in Wisconsin. The price was reasonable and I like the rain gutter featured in their construction.

I also picked up 4 sheets of marine grade plywood (1/4 inch sides and 5/32 inch roof) and a little bit more cherry for my cabinet doors. I go to Kettle Moraine Hardwoods in Adell, WI. They have great Baltic Birch 5x5. I also used Alpine Plywood for my Baltic birch floor. They had 4x8.

Wheels are on the way from Wheels Vintiques. 15x5 Chevy style rims. These will match my 85 suburban. Tires will be Yokohama Geolander at/s in 205/70r15. These have 26.5 diameter with a 6.4 tread width, so I am planning 28x8 fenders. I like full fenders.

Last, I ordered a Dexter Torsion axle from Hanna Trailer and RV in Milwaukee. I ordered with a 45 degree down configuration for max ground clearance. They are local and I've worked with them before. Great company. I also found some online quotes, but Hanna's price was much lower anyway.

More work on the teardrop today.

I took the whole thing apart and sealed the bottom with "the mix". Simply one part polyurethane and 1 part mineral spirits. I plan on using window flashing to cover the bottom as well.

I also got the inner cabinet frame done and rough cut the side sheathing. I bought marine grade plywood and it is almost too pretty to cover up. :(

Last, I started work on the galley door. I'm building it in place per many forum members recommendations. I will run spars between the supports and it will all be framed in cherry. It is going really well.

My dog died in December and it's been hard to find the motivation to work on my project lately. Got a little more done.

AtticDrop, sorry to hear about your dog. I know how you feel as I have lost a dog, that was a cherished member of our family. My current dog Dub is like my best friend. Good job on your mini tear. It will come together in it's own time. I built a very similar camper this spring and just sold it 2 weeks ago.

Attic build - Twin Bed Micro Teardrop

Postby atticdrop » Thu Sep 21, 2017 11:22 pm

Thanks everyone. Luca was with me when I was working on this and am still working on it. Helps me relax and think about him.

Recently finished the interior wiring, battery compartment, and picked up my steel for the trailer frame. I'm using 2 inch square tubing (overkill is underrated).

I finally welded up the trailer base. It's about $100 worth of steel from Speedy Metals. 2x2 .083 wall for the frame and .12 wall for the tongue. I couldn't figure out why my MIG was running like crap at the end. I was out of argon. Dope.

Grinding porous welds out really sucks, but you have to do it.

Might have been a good idea to have used the heavier wall tubing for the front xmbr as well (hope you did?).
