I started fiberglassing my first wall today. I am using epoxy from RAKA.

Here is a picture of the epoxy.

The fiberglass rolled out and ready.

An action shot of me spreading the epoxy.

This is after I got the fiberglass wetted out.

So that is where I am for now. It is still wet so I do not know for sure how it will turn out, so far it looks ok.

Hi Dan: Looking Good.

Your are doing a nice job there. I like the "Action" shots. Your Tear is coming along nicely.

You should have it finished by next spring and you can bring it to the "Dam Gathering". ;)

How is the extra weight of the fiberglass versus the extra strength? does it feel more rigid now?

I have not tried moving the wall yet. Still doing the fill coats. The wall was pretty ridgid to begin with, but I will see if it helped.

I am trying to get it done by the Dam gathering. Fingers crossed.

Looking good Dan. I like the epoxy. Wishing I had done the same. You will have one strong tear.

Got both walls fiberglassed. Got the door cut out and just about ready to start putting the walls on the floor.

Here is a picture of the door cut out.

Since I will be having to move the trailer around I decided to build a trailer dolly to make it easier.

Dan,
What was your process of cutting the door out?

I was going to skip over that, since it did not go anything like I had planned. But since you asked I guess I will share.

I cut the door out of my side profile template. I then clamped the template to the wall. I used a router with a bit holder that holds 1/8" rotozip cutting bits. This is also how I cut the ledge along the top of my walls where the spars will set. I made multiple passes about 1/8" deep until I got all the way throught the thickness of the wall. It worked fairly well for cutting out the ledge, so I thought it would be ok for the door.

Well it did not go so well, not sure what was going wrong. The router bit wanted to keep drifting and the cut was pretty sloppy. I also broke all 4 bits that I had. After I broke the last bit I gave up on that process. I then decided to finishing cutting out the door with a jigsaw and clean up the edges with a belt sander.

I cut the dook out the rest of the way with the jigsaw. I thought all was ok until I removed the door and realized that the blade had drifted almost 3/16 of an inch is some spots. Note to self: DO NOT USE CHEAP JIGSAW BLADE FOR SOMETHING THIS IMPORTANT!!!!

To fix this I used bondo with fiberglass fibers to build up the areas on the door and the cutout. I then used a straight edge and router edge trim bit to trim the edges. On the curved part I just used a belt sander. I will also put fiberglass and epoxy over the edges.

That's what I was thinking KC.

Dan. Looks great and thank you for sharing. So the bondo with fiberglass in it. Thanks for the tip.

Well done Dan! My brother says that it's the nature of wood construction that mistakes will be made. It's how well you can fix them that separates the craftsman. You sir, are a craftsman! Your doors look great! :applause: :applause: :applause: Looking forward to your next update.

All the Best,

Dave
