RE: Dragonfly

Postby mezmo » Mon Aug 08, 2011 5:52 pm

Hi mcspin50/Lil,

You're making great progress!

Something for the future - Maybe you could get a graphic of a Dragonfly
landing on a lily-pad as your logo to display on the TD. That had to have
been a 'sign' from the TD gods eh?

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

The ceiling is installed.
Finished about 9:30 p.m. so pics are a little dark. Nice thing about night shots is you don't see the sunlight streaming through the gaps and seams. Had some construction adhesive, a Stanley electric stapler, a couple dead men and one live one (my husband) to help hold up the bending plywood.

A better stapler would have been nice. Staples often didn't hold on the first try. :hammer: Will try to remove staples after the adhesive is set.

Need to trim the last piece of bulkhead so it will fit upright and snug under the hatch beam. Then it's on to wiring. Wish me luck. :scratchthinking:

Zach,
Thanks so much for dropping by and checking out my progress.

And Norm,
Thanks for stopping by as well. I do have a stained glass pattern that I found on the internet of a frog and dragonfly on a lily pad that I'm going to either make into a banner or paint on the hatch.
I also found this...

Image

which I want to put somewhere on the outside. (Love me the Doctor Who series from BBC.) Don't think it will stick to the white automotive vinyl roof/hatch cover I'm putting on the Lily Pad. Might put it on one of the windows.

I'm a big Doctor Who fan also. If you make The Lily Pad into the Tardis remember to send the show pictures as they are now doing a "Where is the Tardis". :pictures: You might get a teardrop on the actual show and that would be way cool.

Great looking Lil.

It's such a great feeling to get the headliner in isn't it Lil. All at once you see your interior space defined. You're doing such an excellent job; please keep those pictures coming! :applause: :applause:

Hey Gary,
Thanks for stopping by. We'll have to do a Doctor Who video night some gathering! Hope Cheri's doing well.

And Danny and Dave,
Thanks so much for the compliments. I'm so glad I was able to pick out the birch plywood and then varnish it flat. I can't believe how nice it turned out. And Sir Jigsaw will be stepping up next to help make the hatch ribs.

Last night I kept going out into the garage to look at the ceiling/headliner. It does feel good to see a separation between inside and outside. I think I can see this thing getting completed. Many times before I would get cold feet or get scared of my abilities; but, like my hero Bob Wiley (Bill Murray) in "What About Bob?", baby steps, baby steps got me this far.

Great work Lil. Did I read that you are going to put a stained glass window in somewhere? Now thats a great idea. I might have to borrow that one.

Thanks Kirk,
Actually I got this pattern from a stained glass company, but I'm thinking of either painting this on the hatch of the teardrop, or making a banner out of it using my sewing machine.

Image

Would love to learn how to do stained glass, but with weaving, spinning, knitting and other fiber arts involved with my business, I think I better not start another hobby. :? Just not enough time in the day.

Would a stained glass window survive all the bumps and bounces down the highway?

I do have a small marine window that I was thinking of putting in the front of the teardrop, but I'll save it for later or for the next teardrop. ;)

I dont know if it will survive, but when I mentioned it to my wife she said " We are having a stained glass window"! So I will report back on its longevity.

Hello Lil: I see you are doing very nice work there. The stained glass window or sticker will be the right thing to set of your TD. It is a sign from the heavens...
Take care & keep up the good work! ;)

Hi, this is my first post, though I have been looking at this forum for over a year now. I finally had to register and to post when I saw the Dr Who reference. Last weekend my 10 yr old son got me to make him a cardboard Tardis, see pic below. I still need to add some paint to the top.

BTW, I LOVE the idea of putting that sticker on a teardrop!
