Well I finally made some sawdust. I have finished my side profile template. It is BIG. Also remember that there will be a trolley top adding more height to this trailer.

Here is the side profile template. My son is holding it up from behind. If you look close your can see his fingers.


Here is one of me holding it up. Yes that is sawdust on my pants!!!!!!!!

Glad to see you are at it again. Bet it feels real good to make sawdust.
I never realized how big mine was until I parked it at work the day I went to the DMV. That was the first time I saw my trailer with the F150 from real distance. That was more than a year after I had started the built.

I have had a little progress to report. I managed to get the floor framing built and the bottom plywood skin put on. Now I have to insulate and apply the top plywood skin.

I was just looking at your build thread and thought of an idea to go with your Hoplite theme you should do the hubcaps like little shields and a fullsize shield on the back as a spare tire cover then you could have it do the table conversion

just like the spartan moto " Come back with your shield or On it "

The idea of a shield is how I came up with the compass on the graphics. The side graphics is somewhat representative of a Spartan helmet with a shield (compass rose) where the head would be.



The spare tire is planned to go in a drop floor area under the front bunk bed area. I do need to come up with a design for the front and back of the trailer though. Maybe something with the Hoplite name in it.

I insulated the floor and then put on the top plywood layer. I still have the drop floor sections to build, but I am going to wait for a while on those. I will now move on to the walls and use the trailer floor as a work surface.

I have been busy working on my house remodel. Have worked on the trailer some, but not much. I have got one wall framed out. Hopefully will get back to working out it now that I am just about finished with our house.

Hi Dan,
Jetta from Auss, love your plans and looking forward to seing more in the flesh.
I'm working on something I can stand up in as well and thinking of doing two bunks at 90degrees to the walls with a centre section recessed in between. This will require y internal distance between walls to be 2 metres or 6' 6" .

Your internal plan has given me some ideas so thank you very much for sharing.

I am not allowed to build a Td if my wife cannot stand up in it , at 5"7" I'm looking for all the ideas to keep it looking cute but have some height just for getting changed etc.

Any how hope to see some more pics as you get the build further along.

Following your amazing Hopelite build with interest.
what is the length of your main bunk?
I am excited about your interior layout. I have been looking at the 2+2 design for 2 years (I'm still milking the daydream/planning stage)
originally settling on it because of it's larger size, while still having the wonderful curvy teardop style and lines. My wife and I have 13 grandchildren, and I might want to pack one or two in there with us on some trips. But when it is just the two of us, I would like to somehow reclaim the same space used for the kids bunks as comfortable seating. I want the main bunk to be permanent--so one of us can sleep while the other sits up reading or using the laptop to read this group (I would be this one). We have a full sized bunk that converts to a dinette/seating arrangement in our boat, and we never use the tabletop, plus when one of us wants to go to bed, and we do the make it a bed procedure, then the night owl has no where to be except in bed as well. I like your layout, with the large bunk crosswise, but I am 6' 2".
So I am interested in how wide your axle and your floor are.
Also I am curious to know what plans you have for the space between the curved front and the kid's bunks. Cabinets or cubby-holes storage perhaps?
Also, I really like your trolley top. I bet it adds a great deal of interior light in the daytime. Are you are going to mount some type of ventilation fan in the back (I don't guess a Fantastic fan would fit there) or are you going to just use it like passive ventilation?
In our case, we intend to use some type of side tent for toilet and changing and perhaps for rugrat overflow.
I really love your sketch up rendering and paint design. I have allowed my (i can't even call it a "build" yet) teardrop building intent to take a backseat to other things in life, so in the meantime I am really appreciating this group and it's members, what a great group of people come here!
