Thanks! The Kilz wasnt too bad, but the CPES was horrendous!

Skinned the hatch last night! Boy was that a PITA!! I now know why I've seen pictures of hatches being built with 3,000 clamps on them! I somehow managed to get it done by myself, and with only a handful of clamps.

Only clamps here... no glue or screws:




And finally finished, using 40+ wood screws...








I do have one question about everyone's hatches though.... were you able to glue the plywood skin to the framework? I don't see how I would have been able to do it and get the plywood centered on the frame at the same time. I just used about 40+ screws, no glue. Its certainly sturdy, so I don't think it'll be a problem.

My dad came to help out again today. Kerry showed up around 11am and brought his Cubby along for the ride. It was the first time my Dad has seen a teardrop in person and he was impressed! After Kerry left we got back to sanding and sealing. We got the roof spars and more of the interior panels sealed up with spar urethane...

Patience Kerry!! I think I'm going to paint the sides before I assemble it. I think it'll be easier that way. Just think... with all this prep work, its going to be able to be assembled in a day!!

More progress from yesterday after work! I was going to paint the sides and then assemble, but since I'm drilling through the sides into the spars with long screws, I decided that assembly had to come first.

Got the first side up...


Got the second side in place...


And finally both sides are attached and free standing!!


I did get a couple roof spars in place last night, but it was too dark to take any pictures with my cell phone camera. Now that I'm at this point, I think I need to break out my real digital camera Better pics to come!!!

Looking good, Zach. Putting the walls up gives the first real impression of scale. Are your walls going to remain single ply or will they be an insulated sandwich?

Thanks guys! The walls are going to remain single sheets of 3/4" plywood. I could have insulated them, but since the roof is going to a convertible top made of marine vinyl, the insulated walls wouldnt have done much.


Got A LOT done today!!

Roof spars are finished, and galley walls went in... (thats just a temporary shelf that my computer is sitting on)


And we got the front panel in place, with was a prettty big PITA...


Sorry for more crappy cell phone pics... batteries in my nice digital were dead

I'll be out of town tomorrow and Sunday, but I have plenty of holes to fill, and much sanding to do this week. Maybe next weekend will bring blue and white paint!
