This was the start of my test. Started around noon.

Image

The trailer was in the direct sunlight, no shade at all.

Here's a pic of the vents on the inside of the trailer with the window template I made. No mods required to the trailer or the a/c unit at all.

Image

You will notice the electric cord from the a/c unit coming in through the window. This is so I can plug the unit into my thermostat, and it will turn on and off based on whatever temp I have it set to, just like central air!

By the early evening, the trailer was down to 60 degrees, with the outside temp still in the low 80's.

Paul,

Like the AC deal. You made a Pet Cool out of it....an inexpensive one. Love that. You're ducting the evaporator side...awesome.

On mine I'm doing the exact opposite.....ducting the condenser side.

Also like the idea of a line voltage thermostat controlling the temp. I have one too, but it will control my ceramic heater when it gets cold.

Looks like you and I are 180 degrees out of phase on our tinkergeneering. :)

Woodstramp:

Actually I purchased my thermostat for use with a ceramic heater, but to my delight discovered that the thermostat had a heat/cool switch, so I have found a second use for it.

Interesting idea with the ac. So where is it stored?

Deryk:

Due to the likelihood that it will leak, I plan on storing in the car. It is rather large!

Most of the time I go camping, I go local, and w/o electricity, so it will stay home. I will be bringing it to Indiana with me.

3:30pm, inside temp of trailer 116 degrees
4:30pm, inside temp of trailer 75 degrees

So far so good! I'm going to leave it running for the weekend to make sure it doesn't freeze up or anything. I have the thermostat set to 72 degrees in the trailer.

The a/c unit is on low, and inside the trailer the sound is almost imperceptible. Total cost including the a/c unit was $220.00. The a/c unit slides out of the box, and can be put in a window. No modifications were made to the unit at all.
