Sam,

Your teardrop is really coming together. That is a clever way to add a bumper and have the receivers to use while camping. Very nice!

Take care,
Tom

misc stuff done...

Postby desertmoose » Tue Jan 24, 2012 2:07 pm

Well, with the holidays, flu, etc, I haven't spent a lot of time on the Horny Towd, but here's what I've accomplished.

Covered the doors with canvas

Image

Needed a doubler where the latch mounts

Image

I do like how easy it is to get the canvas to conform to the wood frame.

Image

Doors are painted. With the cold temps, I brought them inside for the paint to fully cure.

Image

Added the cleats to support the shelves.

Image

Using a spare hatch rib to check clearance to the cabinets.

Image

Stained and varnished the cabinet parts before installing them. Lots more to do, trim, upper shelf, cabinet doors, etc.

Image

That's about it for now. I did a lot of painting, etc that doesn't really show up.

:applause: ...Love your removable bumper idea! That's good thinking! :applause:

PS. It's kind of funny: a moose sleeping in a Tow'd

Doors on, and start of the tongue box

Postby desertmoose » Wed Feb 01, 2012 7:35 pm

The Horny Towd has doors!

inside shot

Image

door open, with the underbed storage visible. Will be a good place for muddy shoes.

Image

Closed door, and exterior light installed.

Image

I have started the tongue box. First step is to match the curve of the body. Propped the tongue box side in place at the proper angle, and used a stick to transfer the curve locations.

Image

After trimming, I'm OK with the fit.

Getting closer!

I'm extremely envious of that tongue box! I'm not sure I could build that, but I definitely want to try! Great work!

lousy photos, but we did get the stripes on the tear.

Sealed the edges with tan before painting the stripes, but there was some seepage under the tape when we painted the black and green. Will take just a bit of touchup.

I see boats hanging in those rafters. Iooks like some kind of kayaks. I prefer canoes myself.

Nice paint job by the way.
