Looking good! Would love to see some pics of what you have done with the fans - I have run wiring so that I can do that with mine if we find it gets too warm inside and would be interested to see how you have gone about it. You are nearly there - just in time for Summer....

I just put pinstripe (white) on my canvas covered foamy. It stuck great and worked out well.

Here are the fans... if you look closely there is a line of darker color around 2 sides of each fan. We used an epoxy from west system made for 'almost anything' . My friend John works on boats and repairs some for a local group. I like light switches so;

Heat shrink and this foam don't go well together...

The fans are in series and run at less than 1/2 speed quietly.

My welded battery box support and the screwed down box. It looked good until I added the cover and I can't
get the key into the tongue box lock. I'll need to remove and somehow lower it. Maybe just saw it off below
the side handles. This requires sitting back and just contemplating it I think. Perhaps I'll have that rare
beverage...

I started wiring the Tacoma today. installed a 40a relay and ran a
#10 wire to the hitch. Had to stop and run for another package of
marine type connectors.

Over the last few days I accomplished little.
I wired a power panel and radio, and
started canvas of inside in the front.

The back interior.

Today in 88 deg weather and 82% humidity
I ran pinstripe tape and installed windows.

Re: Build in NYS - Problems with gasketing.

I have canvased the ceiling and installed lights. the next step
would be to finish inside walls. All wiring is grooved into the foam
and spackled.
:D
I've been considering a roof rack. I'm going to inset wood blocks
to provide it support in the wall before canvas there, in case I do.

:(
GASKETS... I purchased the gasket from Grant. It does squeeze
to almost nothing when pinched, NOT by my door. It would require a
roughly 3/16 space with the foam door. I shimmed the hinge out to
test this.

The Door is a problem. I Should Have made a hard corner for the top
and bottom edges, more than just square foam.
:NC
Perhaps flashing under the canvas is the answer for others in the future.
Or.... my second. :D

Thanks Larry. Still a little way to go.
:D
Today I removed the 4 wire unit from my Tacoma. It had the third brake light
flashing with the left turn signal and the license plate lights with the right.
Can't figure how. Doesn't matter. All operates correctly with it removed.
There's new ordered...

Cut the maple blocks for the door catches. Shellacked for install tomorrow.

95% finished with inside canvas and gripper primer on it all.
Need to complete the storage spaces with canvas and covers
yet. Then taking the wife to pick an interior color.
:)
I haven't tested the weather strip gasket for leaks yet...
Hoping it'll be ready for registering and use by Monday if all
goes well.

Ah well, The inside canvas is done and The wife gave me a quart of a light
yellow to cover the primer. The floor has been primed also now.
:D
I'm still playing with the door latch and gasket, passenger side. Other yet to
do. I need covers for the two storage spaces and a few other odds and ends.
:)
Every time I look at another system I think of just another little improvement.

I need to stop that!
I'll just keep plugging along.

Nice looking. Paint clouds on the ceiling to go with the blue/white scheme.

Re: Build in NYS - Substantially Complete

Postby pchast » Fri Jul 25, 2014 10:19 am

Hi all,

Computer is down. I'm on an old laptop.

The trailer is substantially complete. I registered it Tuesday. The weight slip said 560lbs.
I checked the weight on the tongue I added and that was 36 lbs. the batteries total 14 lbs and the
tongue box another 12... That would bring it under 500, still not the 450 I targeted in the beginning.
Interesting; The MV clerk asked a supervisor what to do. No request to see my receipts that I carried
in in a folder. Just 22$ and here is your new plate. I showed a few pictures and she said gee that's
cute. ALSO No admonition to have it inspected and no information about insurance or not...
:D
Recd our mattress and loaded it in the trailer. The wife ran right out to buy a set of sheets and a
couple of pillows for the trailer! Just a touchup of the inside paint to do and attach the rear interior
light.

Re: Build in NYS - Insurance

Postby pchast » Wed Jul 30, 2014 4:24 pm

Hi,

My insurance agency took 5 days to find out that none of the companies they represent will insure
a home built trailer. I don't understand. They insure a kit build of hf or ts trailers but not this now...
:?
All my insurance is with a Progressive company. The auto is Preferred Mutual?

I towed the trailer 50 miles down the Thruway to a meeting of the Woodworking club this morning.
It towed well without bearing issues. Little bounce or sway from big trucks either. My gas mileage
was 24.3 vs 25.5 last week. I 'm happy.

Hi all,

I'm declaring things done although I have repairs already.

I have to devise a method to latch the electric panel down
to the box structure. It bounced out on the trip Wednesday
and broke off the rear interior light. That light was
double stuck to the paint rather strongly but popped off
without pealing paint.

I finished a total of the expenses of purchases not hours
of work... I came up with $3259 total spent. Not a thrifty
build at all.

Still no insurance. I intend to find out about inspection
tomorrow.
