I'm back! Had a disastrous holiday in Bali, should have been great but on the first night, Sara mis-counted some stairs and we spent the first week in hospitals, xrays, MRI's, wheel chairs etc. and then needed to stay on because she was not fit to fly. The ankle and swelling did not stop the spending

Sara's still got to see the ankle specialist here so the saga continues.

Anyway...

Put a third coat of garage floor paint on the TD and she's shining. I'm so excited. The paint has filled in the fibers and wood grain so it's smooth and semi gloss. I did not take any photos and I'm curling tonight, last game of the season, so I'll take photos tomorrow. The final colour is to be fire engine red. I was going to go with an external wood paint but I'm thinking about using a automotive paint in a rattle can...I'll start a new thread asking for advice.

So sorry to hear you and your wife had misfortune on your vacation. Hope she heals up 100%. (Physical therapy is usually the key!)

on the paint job. I would worry that rattle can paint would look uneven compared to a proper spray job.

on curling! Like many Americans, I love watching it on "the tellie", but there aren't any organizations close enough to make giving it a go practical, otherwise I'd love to. I'm envious.

In the photos it looks red but it's much more of an iron oxide red than a ladybird red.

Thanks KC, Bobhenry is of the same opinion. I'm going to find myself some decent enamel paint and paint it on with a roller and brush.
Some aluminium trim will finish it off nicely.

Work is getting in the way but may be able to get something done this week-end

Which garage floor paint did you decide to try?

Just wondering cause I am thinking about trying something new this spring!

With the help of my minion woodburning stove and a heater inside the TD, I managed to raise the temperature of my workshop and painted the TD with garage floor paint.

Still painting the undercoat. It is coming right but I would have liked to have painted it BEFORE I'd mounted switches etc. It's a learning curve.

Mike sorry about the delay. It's a resin based floor paint. I'll dig out the data sheet.

It's been busy at work, cold and damp so I've not really had much time to do anything.
However things have changed and after putting on three coats of floor paint,

I've painted another three coats of "Pillar Box red" sandtex exterior gloss paint that is guaranteed for 10 years

The tongue box is painted black with the sandtex exteriour charcoal black and looks fantastic after just one coat. The ladybird dots are going to be painted on using the same sandtex black.

The results are shown below.

The interior has also had three coats of red floor paint, and is now getting three coats of White "kitchen and bathroom" paint and is looking rather bright!

All I now need to do is:
- fix the tongue box to the body
- Fit the number/licence plate mount
- Fit the wheel arches/fenders to the body
- sort the tail light wiring
- Install external lights - enroute from ebay (see photo below they are daylight running lights)
- install a ceiling into the galley
- install lifts into the galley
- Install door/galley seals, I've bought some and they're ready to be stuck on Plain Expanded Neoprene - Strip http://www.sealsdirect.co.uk/shopping.asp?intDepartmentId=4#15
- buy and install a mattress

I suppose another month or so depending on how much time I can spend in the garage.

Its taken 6 coats to get there.....
I think it was worth the effort.

I think the inside will need the same. I'm on number 3.


Any new builders : paint earlier than I did. It's a pain to paint around things and in corners. It's much easier to paint when it's flat on a table.

Managed to get the door and galley seals done. The Galley has warped slightly so the seal on the off-side is not as good as the near side.
I'm using some weight to try and get it into position.

The mudguards go on tomorrow and I can start connecting up the tail lights (photos.....)

I've have a slight distraction which I've added on to another thread.
