Mobile Fit Club Build - Tommy2tone_1999

Postby Tommy2tone_1999 » Mon Dec 23, 2013 1:33 am

The idea behind the name "Mobile Fit Club" is taken from my at-home business as a Team Beachbody Coach. A Fit Club is where a Team Beachbody Coach arranges a location and invites others to come over to try out an at-home fitness routine DVD (P90X, Insanity etc.) for free to get a feel for the programs. This build lets me combine the fun of camping with my TD and advertising my business while on the road (and hopefully let me write off some of the cost on my taxes) I can also take this TD to outdoor health fairs. I plan to install a pull-down window shade on the inside of the hatch to be used as a projector screen so that I can project the workout DVD for others to try. VOILA! Mobile Fit Club!

I decide to use 3/4" MDO as a solid wall. This stuff is hard to find and is not cheap!..I found two places in New Orleans, One was a sign company that wanted $100/ sheet, and later I found a lumber yard there too that had only 2 sheets left at $62.50 a sheet. Naturally I went with the latter. I guarantee they are worth WAY MORE than that to me now. On the way from Baton Rouge, I stopped for lunch, and locked my keys in my truck. Luckily I wasn't far from home and my wife brought me the extra set. On the way home, I got a blow out on my utility trailer. I pulled over on I-10 to change the tire...wrong size lug wrench. A State Trooper stopped and lent me his...wrong size spare. I wasn't far from home so I called my mechanic and he had a spare waiting on me. Got the new tire, and borrowed a lug wrench, and got back to the trailer. MDO still there Whew!. What was supposed to be w 3-hour trip (I can hear the theme to Gilligan's Island in my head) turned in to an 8.5 hr. circus. Oh well back home safe and sound. :?

Too bad you couldn't make the wheels look like weight plates.

Northern Tool stopped selling it's 5x8 trailer and now sells this Ironton trailer. All of the specs are the same.

The trailer was a little out of square so I used a ratchet strap as a come-along

Looking Good! Did the Northern Tool Ironton trailer look as good in the flesh as it looks in the pics?

Thanks. It's a nice one. There were two wedge shaped pieces of thick galvanized metal that I cannot figure out. They aren't listed tin the parts diagrams nor in the assembly instructions.

Missed a week of working on it due to a bad cold, but i finally got the floor framed up. I found out the trailer was out of square, so I had to loosen all the bolts put a ratchet strap across it diagonally, then beat it in to submission with a rubber mallet. Finally got it aligned. I have the front 2 openings framed for storage compartments.

When I bought the plywood for my floor, the sheathing grade I saw at Lowes was crap. So I bought the hardwood ply that was primed and ready to paint. I wasn't thinking about the CPES that I was going to seal it with. So I spent most of the weekend sanding off the primer on one side to apply the CPES. After that I'm going to prime it again with 2 coats of Zinsser Oil-Based Primer, and then the Asphalt compound. I'll paint the upper surface with an oil-based paint just to help seal the moisture out, then cover it with vinyl flooring.
