Well, we have second draft drawings finished. The darker areas are the positive, or where the glass will be carved. The white areas will be clear glass. The piece will be hand cut, 30"x18". Cast your vote for right or left. We're having trouble deciding...



Also, I got the LED's installed and functional. I did a test carving on a 6"x6"x3/8" piece. I'm curious to know what ya think...

That glass looks awesome. I just finished going through your build and all I can say is WOW! The journey through the build and your cancer has been inspiring. I'm planning/plotting to build an unconventional teardrop and have found some real great information here. Thank you very much for sharing.

I wonder if you frost the edge of the glass in the mounting groove if that would make it generally more diffuse, and also make the individual LED's stand out less. I'd rather the art work be the star of the show and not be distracted by seeing the individual LED's, plus were they refract though the exposed edge.

As always, good points KC but way ahead already. The test piece has a clear edge and is sharp. The actual piece will be sanded and polished. Also there will be trim that covers the three sides that hide the LED's. I agree with you completely.

Vote 6 for the right. Too many rockets on the left one. More stars is better. I kind of like those 6 prongs stars better than the 4 pronged ones too.

Well I can see from an engineer's perspective, the right one is more symmetrical. As an artist, that's why I'm not crazy about it! Lol. But we are going with the right one, with a few changes . More to come! Thanks everyone for your responses and kind words.

Ok... last draft, then a few tweaks here and there and we'll have the final. After that it will be ready to cut. I'm still not 100% on my sandblasting equipment, but I think for this piece it will suffice. Having 3/8" glass cut is pricey, so I really have to carve it right the first time!

On another note... it has been cold, wet and nasty all weekend here. It's been so nice to have the new furnace quietly chugging out the heat as I de-winterize and clean! Money well spent!

Thank you. Those will be a fine line but clear in the center. That breaks it up for me and I'm a lot happier with it
