Hey mate, great job so far.

I'm in Wollongong and just about to start on my first build, it won't be a hardcore Simpson desert crawler like yours though!

I was just wondering how you attached the edge trim to the hatch?

We don't have access to all the same aluminium extrusions as they do in the US, what I would do for some offset T moulding!!!

I'm going to go the same way with the galley edge trim as you. With the table trim.

Any pics of the process and underside appreciated.

Craig.

Hows it mate.
The table edge trim on the galley wall edge is held on with sikaflex 252.
Thereare a few small sections of 3m double sided tape to hold it in place while it sets though.
The actual galley lid itself if used stainless screws to hold that on and once screwed in place i removed them and refitted tbe screws from the inside out with the ends cut down.
The stuff ive ued right around the galley edge and floor to wall joint is sold here as RV molding.
It has a vynal strip that gos in the center to cover up the fixings.
Until ny basements complete i cant finninsh the hatch trim completly but thats how ive done it for now.
If you need help with suppliers ect just gice me a yell.
Be happy for you to call me it it helps.

Thanks Mate,

so its its Aluminium SKin, then Plywood underneath, covered on the edges with RV Moulding - screwed from underneath, with the vinyl insert covering the cutoff screws?

So underneath the hatch , like where you can see the upside down screws, do have a rubber seal? or will that be glued into the table trim? ?

With my hatch i built the hatch frame an the skinned it with 1mm aluminium but only from outer rib to outer rib.
Then i used an old bedsheet to PMF one side of some 3mm hardwood ply that i then glued and stapled through the spars and ribs and let dry.
Once dry i routed the ply skin to fit the sides of the camper so it was a neat finnish then sanded the edge and pmfd the outer skin in canvas
So thats basicly in a nutshell how the steps were done.
Your correct as far as the edge trim attachnent and yes i intend to fit some ppofe foam to the underside of the hatch to seal against the table edge trim witch will also cover the screw heads.
My methods a bit different to alot of other peoples but i used what was avaliable to me.
How well it works is tet to be seen but in theiry it should work

Yes we are fine over here, just too much to do and not enough time to do it. Although we did manage to get a week away in the teardrop, mid winter camping in Taupo :snowstorm: and Tauranga.

Spanners (or for you Americans reading this "wrenches") and curve balls, I think we all have problems with those.
So it's Tracy that is getting the birthday present, what is the car you are looking at? :vroom:

I grew up on a farm in the middle of Indiana. Dad and grandpa always said spanner wrench. Maybe I have Kiwi roots?!
