Looks great so far. I got a real kick out of it when mine went from being a stack of flat panels to a TD. I envy your workspace, though where you live it's got to be a necessity !

I totally agree about the flat panels turning into a 3 dimensional teardrop. I was completely stoked this weekend when the sides went up. This morning we woke to -31 Below! Gotta have a warm garage. Bryan

Installed the mahogany spars this evening. They are mounted on 9" centers. :)

Received the doors recently. They are 26X36 with mill finish inside and out as well as the perimeter trim. Spent the day taking a belt sander and fitting the inner trim ring to the door jamb. Everything is fitting very nicely. The sides are now ready to accept the doors when the time comes. Next up is building the cabinets.

I bought the doors from Vintage Technologies. Since I wanted all mill finish they needed to be special ordered from the manufacturer. But it only took a couple of weeks to get them to Vintage Technologies, then another couple of weeks ground freight to Alaska. I am pleased with the vintage old school look that I was after. Bryan

Today was spent building the galley cabinets. This is how far I got. Using 3/4" birch cabinet plywood. Hope to spend more time tomorrow working on them. So far so good. We are expecting -38 below zero tomorrow in Fairbanks. A nice warm garage is a great place to be on a day like that! Bryan

Got a little further with the cabinets today. The lower section is permanently in place, and the counter top and bulkhead are just set in place for mock up measuring. :)

Here is the solution I came up with to affix the headliner to the bulkhead wall. I glued a spar onto the upper bulkhead wall on the galley side and then cut the proper angle to match the roofline. The headliner will then terminate over the bulkhead wall and be glued down.

Alaskan Benroy's headliner is installed.

Postby ratrod71 » Sat Feb 14, 2015 8:18 pm

Today was spent installing the headliner. It is 1/8" birch. PL Premium adhesive was used to glue it to the spars. I was nervous going into it wondering how it would bend to the 19" radius. Not a problem one. Didn't even hear any cracking wood. Many thanks to my beautiful Wife for helping me today. Great Valentine gift to me. I am all smiles. :)

Looks awesome. Oh how I wish I had those insulated garage doors. We've got3 feet of snow and another 18 inches coming tonight. Not really the norm for us here in Boston area. :D
