So it took some mental adjustment for me to go from metal to wood.

First of all i was not really impressed by the quality of my sawcuts using the circular saw. Even using a guidingslide. Yes 1 side (the underside ) of the sawcut of the plank looks great.
But the upside of the sawcut not that good enough. It is just the nature of a circular saw, and yes i had taped every sawline before sawing.
So i went on using a router for all the parts who are in the line of sight.
You can work very precise with a router but it takes some sweet time doing the math leveling the router guides. U can make a mistake easily.
And considdering that some planks needed up to 9 differend cuts so far, you didn't want to make to much mistakes.

Keep in mind that i want to build this part of the teardrop somewhat like a kind of Lego system. And also that the complete floor must be removable.
By that i mean that i want to have the possibility to demount all the loose parts easily when nessesary by just some screws or bolts.
It takes some creativity at times to design al kinds and placing of mountingbrackets.

But after all i am pretty pleased by the result so far.

I want to route some slots into the top of the horizontal planks to hold the inner walls, and than make some lids with piano hinges for some holdingspace.

On the last foto u can see that i can mount the outerwall directly on the frameribs.

Meanwhile i am sawing al kinds of mounting brackets. Some have to be pretty precise using a mitersaw, and others just with an angle grinder.
I will tig weld them on the existing ribs.

So you know what i am busy with, coming time.

Greetz, SmeerKees.

I've not been very active on the forum lately, but I have to say the quality of your work... craftsmanship, really... shines though in your pictures. (Thumbs up).

Not sure why you feel the need to take it apart later when you clearly have the skill to make a well fit and water tight camper, but then again, we all get to pick our own design challenges, and that is, in fact, the fun part.

Despite some very minor translation... let's call them variations... your posts are well articulated and enjoyable to follow, so I will be! Cheers and peace to you.

Hello everybody, here are some updates from the Netherlands.

Wow, i can't believe it has been the amount of time since my last update. I guess you could say it had at least partially to do with the covid bug.
Last summer i geared down bigtime on the work on the teardroptrailer to somewhat minimize human contact because of the bug.

It took some time here in the Netherlands to gain momentum to vaccinate for covid. We started with the olderly people first.
In fact i got my second shot of vaccine just a couple of weeks ago in the second half of July.

That left me with more time at home, so i went ahead for some much needed inside remodelling...
A new kitchen, (the old one was thirty years old) a new floor, smoothed out the walls and fresh paint on the walls and seiling.

Wow, what a difference it all makes!

Now i can spend more time on the teardrop trailer again.

@ KCStudly,

Because i am working with steel i want to have the opportunity to for instance change my floor with somewhat resonable effort without tearing the complete teardrop trailer down.

The main reason, moisture and water intrusion. Espessially because i built my own doors and hatch.
Building a watertight door and hatch system (in steel) takes a lot of effort and is in my opinion one of the most difficult and time consuming details.
Espessially living here in the Netherlands far outside the USA. Here it is way more difficult to find usable parts for a DIY built.
For instance i still haven't found the type of Hurricane hinge i want over here in Europe. And try a 5 ft. hurricane hinge to sent from the USA without damage.
Smaller parts are easier to post.
Hopefully More about this in a future post.

Greetz, Kees.

As you can see i have added a 2 mm. thick piece of neopreen on the vertical, and horizontal pieces on the floor. Mainly for eliminating rattle's and squeeks.
The horizontal (counter) plate will be fixed to the steel beams with brackets and screws.

I had to make a lot of spacers for fitting the doors and hatch. Remember, the doorskin will be wrapped around the sides of the doors, and hatch. And i want to mitersaw each part in a 45 degree angle for welding. The initial tack welds will be done in the actual doorjams using the spacers and clamps.

As you can see the vertical beams of the hatch must be cut very precise especially because the back form of the teardroptrailer is not round but partially elyptoid.
when you cut more than about 2 mm. in the wrong place the form of the hatch will not be on the same place of the silhouette of the teardroptrailer.

This plus the space for the wrap around skin, plus the mitersaw angles of the squares of the hatch....

But first i need the hinge to use for the hatch. Because it can influence the hight of the hatch.

After that the water seal system.

Now u understand why i think this part of the build is the most difficult, and time consuming. Especially while building with steel.

Oh ja and when welding the curved pieces, try to use as less heat as possible. the bended pieces of steel want to lose their form caused by heat.

When you think about it there is a lot of inner tension (stress) in the bended steel pieces.

AND NOW FOR US NERDS!
The hatch gap spaced with just the frame. Is about 8.5 mm

And this would be the theoretical endgap of the hatch with the doorskin wraparound. This would be around 5 mm.

I measured the door and hatch gap(s) of my car (a fiat 500 eurospecs) the doorgaps were about 3 mm on the front and back.
The hatchgaps were about 4 mm on the sides and underside.

(Have you ever thought about the size of your cardoorgaps?).......me neither. :o

Next time i would like to talk something about the availability of our teardroptrailer parts here in the Netherlands (or europe) as compared to the USA.

Greetz for now,

Whow, time flies.

The last time i uploaded some foto's was already august last year.

Well i have been going on since then.

Let me see, welded the doorframes, and the hatchframe, finally found me some decent doorhinges, and made brackets for mounting the doorhinges.

OK, some pictures first.
As you can see spacing out things is the only way to go.
