I have a round 7 pin trailer plug on my van. I believe it was the center pin that gets energized when the tow vehicle is put into reverse. So awesome with all those lights when backing up at night.

Thank you! I’ll check that out. :)

And a quick search confirms that. Of course the diagram I had called it ‘auxiliary’. LOL, what’s that.

I believe the auxiliary wire can charge the trailers battery from the tow vehicle while driving. I don’t currently plan on using that.

Ken,

Be careful going off of generic diagrams off the internet, there are apparently a few different "standards" out there. I wired my trailer based off of a diagram and then found that few things worked properly...turns out that the 7 pin diagram I used was not the same as the 7 pin on my truck. I wound up having to test each pin to figure out what turned the voltage onto it for peace of mind. :?

Ricky, I really like the rock light idea. I might have to figure out a way to add that to my trailer :) I have a box of "things to add to the trailer" that doesn't seem to be getting any smaller.

I 100% agree with not trusting g the wiring diagrams. Too many different orientations out there. I tested them all and marked up my own diagram.
The list of things seems to always grow in length. I don’t believe these things are ever truly “finished”

Louis:

And now I understand why my Mictuning trailer plug and junction box was wired so goofy.

Thanks again. I’ll be testing my connector before wiring anything.
I found this third brakelight (meant to be a truck bed cargo light and brake light) after reading about the ‘rock lights’. I think this will be handy as a backup light as well as rear light when needed.

Well I finally purchased a mattress. I took Tony’s advise and opened the mattress inside the trailer. The mattress is 60” wide and my trailer is only 57” wide on the inside. Because we trailer is narrower than the mattress, it was not expanding evenly. My wife and I wrestled it back out of the trailer. We removed the fabric cover and cut 4” of foam off down one side. Reinstalled the cover and fought to get it back in. It does fit great now but what a pain in the butt!

Ouch. That musta been one heck of a wrestling match. (Seriously.) :frightened:

Our's fits fine inside our 57-3/4" cabin.

But I'm glad you got that giant amoeba back in. That had to be round two. :frightened:

You'll not forget this day.

I’m glad you succeeded. I can’t believe how unwieldy those foam mattresses can be once they are ‘released’.

I finally tackled and checked the water and propane off my to do list. For the gas I put together a manifold. It has 2 regulators with quick connections (1 for the stove, 1 for the shower) as they both have very different operating pressures. I also added a 1”-20 male fitting for adding a bbq. The manifold is bolted to the propane tank mount.

My 100% garage built teardrop

Postby ricky herbold » Sun Jan 12, 2020 6:46 pm

For the shower side I could not find bulkhead fittings that worked with the thickness of my walls. I found these waterproof seals that will work great. I was able to get the water and electrical ran and still have room to add the propane line in the future. In the future I would like to have the propane lines run permanently thru the trailer so I don’t have to run hoses. The heater runs on 2 D batteries but I didn’t want to deal with them, so I installed a small step down transformer (12v - 3v) and wired it into the heater. It is controlled by the same switch that turns on the water pump. Works great!!
