ARRGGG...
SW, your silk purse name came true... the ‘oops’ paint I bought as ‘tan’ is pink. Grrrr...
I painted about a third of the interior and quit. Tomorrow, I’m going to go buy a gallon of exterior semi gloss in the color I want... light tan, and then start painting again in a couple of days. At least the galley area will be ‘slick’ with paint and well sealed. The good news is that the interior of the fiberglass topper seems to take paint well.
Then on to wiring. I want to go get the thing weighed before I put in all the heavy stuff like the batteries, bed, etc.

LOL
I went to Ace hardware today and they had 2 different ‘oops’ cans. I also took my wife along. She is an artist and has better color vision than I do. We looked at both cans of paint. I smeared some on my finger (and jeans) and a paint stick and then took it outside in the sun. I think I got TAN paint today. Tomorrow, it goes on. It better be TAN. :?

Success! The paint is a nice creamy tan color. I got about a third of the interior painted today. I have some insulation to put in, in the front wall and a few rim cracks in the topper to repair before I finish the painting in the cabin. Supposed to be warmer tomorrow, so the fiberglass repair should be able to happen.

I’ve also figured out the rear doors and how to mount the cooler and stove I think. May also start on that tomorrow too.

Good progress today. I’m worn out. The permanent rear doors are built and installed.

Here shown open. There will be a shelf on the left door, at the bottom, for the cooler. I found teflon glides to go under that shelf and slide on the floor as the door opens and closes. Both doors sit on a 2x2 when closed for extra support. The stove goes on the right door, on a shelf that will slip OVER the countertop.

I have to laugh at myself... I can’t install the countertop now. I have to remove that vertical support in the center of the galley first. That won’t happen until the rest of the insulation and paneling are in place.

I used ordinary door hinges and left enough space for a good seal. I may add a third hinge if necessary, and a support leg, mainly to keep the doors from swinging in the breeze. The rear of the trailer is close to the ground because I have the tongue HIGH to allow melting snow to run off (windows still need to be sealed) and the left tire is flat.

Doors and hatch closed. The hatch overlaps the doors for security, just like it would on a pickup. Fits perfectly. I am amazed.

Tomorrow, the first coat of exterior paint will go on the doors.

Note: you can see the tan paint on the rear edge of the shelf and the rear part of the floor. I like it a lot.

Some possible moisture on the way here, so I got a coat of the exterior paint on the exterior of the doors and the tan on the inside. The body of the camper will be this color with the roof being bright white.

Also, removal of 3 Kreg screws allowed me to remove the vertical support that was blocking installation of the galley counter. As soon as the walls of the galley are insulated and paneled, the counter will go in and the support replaced.

A little progress today. I got the original front window out and temporarily installed the awning window in the front. I also figured out how to fill the remaining space from the old window (with fiberglass) and how to support it while the fiberglass hardens.

I’ll try to snag a pic or two today. :) Supposed to be a beautiful day, but we have to make a grocery store run too. Sigh.
Anyway, I got some stuff that I think will be great for the curtain hanging system too. It is a coil spring with little hooks that screw into the ends. Looks like clothes line. The plan is to have wood above and below the windows to screw the hooks into.

The idea is to string a strand of this above and one below the windows with the curtains pocketed top and bottom so they slide open or closed. The stuff is commonly available in Europe, and is bare, no covering on the spring. I finally found some here, on Amazon I think. But the coating makes it ‘not stretchy’. I plan to strip the coating a bit to allow some ‘spring’ tension.

:D

OK, pics. The first one is of the front window. I removed the existing topper window and installed the awning window by framing the entire window opening with 1x2 lumber. This will give me a good attachment point for hooks and hangers as well as reinforce the width of the ‘hole’ left from the window. The left and right sides are temporarily covered. They will get a piece of fiberglass (salvaged from an old camper shower surround) that will be fiberglassed into the openings (cut to fit of course). I’ll be using this same method to the left and right of the door opening.
The wood frame also gives me a good spot to attach the curtain ‘springs’. The space to the left of the window, between it and the door casing will become a ‘closet’ and I would like to make a corner cabinet on the right side.

I also decided to add a 1x2 to the top and bottom of the side window. It will go from the rear vertical window to the slanted bump in front of it, top and bottom. Again, a place for the curtains and a place for hooks and such.

Both of the windows will have awnings over them. The front one will be cut down from the one I removed from the big 5th wheel camper I salvaged items from and the side one will probably be a copy of the wooden one seen on a teardrop here.

This is how the fiberglass will be fitted. I plan to cut and fit a piece for each of the 4 ‘holes’ left from removing curved windows and installing a rectangular door and window. I want to get all 4 pieces cut and fitted so I can take the trailer out of the shelter I built. I need to do that for access to them. But, I will need a week or so of good weather before I can do that.
Anyway, here is the first piece fitted to the hole. The shower fiberglass seems perfect. The inside is quite similar to the existing interior of the topper and the outside will be sanded and roughed up so it will hold paint.

I had made a pattern for that piece, but I’ve since realized that the windows I removed are perfect patterns... I’ll use those to lay out the remaining 3 pieces.
