We started with a 5x10 trailer from TSC as it was the only trailer we could find for 50 mile radius. Image
Took it home and yes, cut up a perfectly good trailer!Image
Next, we build a floor (insulated) and started dreaming up how to extend the trailer. Image
So we decided to put the wheels under the teardrop Image
This last weekend we welded up the trailer. We extended the tongue two feet, added supports for the draw bar, added a platform to the front, and added on to the rear by two feet. Image
Image
Image
Added bolt on leveling jacksImage
Added this receiver hitch for daydreaming of a table or seats off the kitchen, who knowsImage
Painted the trailer with rust inhibitor paint Image
Image
And currently we are resin coating the bottom side of the subfloor and going to build the two foot add on section hopefully this weekend.

Looking good.
Obviously a man who knows what he is doing.
Or so it appeared, until the part that says,
"Decided to put the wheels under the teardrop".
Now I'm second guessing everything.

Finished with two coats of fiberglass resin for the main floor. I put a 1 inch wide strip of fiberglass to seal the seam to the two pieces of 1/4 plywood to ensure sealing from the elements. I’ll have to do the same process for the two foot added on section just recently made to the trailer.

Used the Yonico router bit to join the two foot section tonight. I have it all flat and level, hopefully after 24 hours I can take the floor out and add two coats of resin and fiberglass spine to finish up the bottom side to the elements! This weekends plan is to attach the camper floor and coat the underside of it as well. Image

Second sub floor is now resin coated and the seams are fiberglass. We secured the floor to the insulation and sub floor. Next, the BLACK TAR is going on!Image

hook the trailer to the tow vehicle now go to the far corner and jump up and down most of those trailers are a trust trailer and when you cut the rails off you've lost a lot of the support. If you find to weak use what you cut off to box the frame in. That's about all you can do
Il suffit de le faire
fast, cheap, fiberglass/ foam stressed skin panels

Sub floor in and siliconed to the trailer (so water won’t weep between the trailer rails and wood) and floor deck is secured to the subfloor and insulation. Next step, fill the voids and sand the floor. Then, drill for carriage bolts to secure to the trailer.

Floor is sanded and carriage bolts are installed. Used a counterbore bit to flush the heads. Image
First cutout of the contour of the camper itself. Image
Since we are going “over” the wheels, this is the first cutout. I was planning on using the existing fenders for this build, but, I don’t want to see the round fenders over the wheels. I have some Jeep style fenders coming. They look to be a bit long, but I’ll place them and cut them down to add some protection from the elements once mocked up. I’ll need to weld on a back to them so they can be screwed into place. I will be lengthening the wheel opening to help aid in changing a tire if needed. Image
Used the 1/4 Yonico router bit to join the “sandwich” board and is setting up. 24-48 hours depending on cure, wall two will be glued. Image
Had about 30 minutes to spare, so the 7 pin connector and junction box was mounted. From what I’ve read, I may as well hook it up to the TV and pin out each wire so I don’t have to keep messing with it!

We got the two “sandwich” walls cut to shape on Sunday. Now we are ready to skeletonize after we mark everything out. Went Saturday and found a Dometic two burner gas stove, and a Dometic sink with flip down faucet, ordered the vent fan and some other goodies for the finishing touches.

Trimming the skeleton walls tonight. Just the too portion, doors should be in tomorrow so we can mark those out and get to cutting. Next step is to dado a few shelves in the build and hopefully on to the inner and outer skin Image

Wow! We haven’t posted in awhile! I broke my leg about three months back and had to put the project on a little hold, but now we are back at it!Image
Skeleton foaming the inner wall. Notice the port hole window. Image
Gluing in the foam, and the inner wall
Image
Both walls complete, ready for polyurethane!
Image
Four coats of sanding and applying. We decided to use automotive buffing compounds to smooth out the surfaces. Image
After a wet sand and buff, turns out nice and smooth.
Image
Hung the first wall today with some loctite pl premium and screw.
Image
Now for wall number 2!
