Whaaaaaaffflesssss....

don'tknow exactly what kind of waffle iron/maker I'll be borrowing at the LCG , but will need a good waffle recipe.

Is the one on the Bisquick box just as good?

Hopefully can try this out at Crawford S.P. next month.

My wife used the one on the back of the Bisquick box and it worked just fine. (She didn't want to whip egg whites and wrestle with a new iron all at the same time). I am still trying to figure out how to do here recipe in the field.

We like waffles made from Pioneer Brand Buttermilk Pancake and Waffle Mix. (Don't get confused and buy the Pioneer Baking Mix, unless you want to make bisquits) In my opinion it's better than Bisquick. I make it using the directions on the back except I subsitute skim milk for the water and add a touch of vanilla. Makes great pancakes AND waffles.

Instead of milk use breyers vanilla nut ice cream (melted of course) and it need not even be said I guess because it is so obvious for the most perfect whafffffle use only one day old organic Platypus eggs

Kevin's choice, Krusteaz, works very well and Costco carries it too. I second his recommendation.

Thanks y'all..... we've got that Krusteav brand in our local store so I'll do some sampling....

The melted ice cream.... mmmmmm !!!! rich !!!! Don't know if I'll do that for a hundred at the LCG though.... I love the folks, but it might be a lot more work.

Instead of water or regular milk in a recipe...try buttermilk. You can also doctor up just about any box recipe with cinnamon, nutmeg, a shot of vanilla, almond extract nuts etc...with no problems. An extra shot of oil in the recipe will also help to make them crispier. Chocolate waffles, because of the additional sugar, fruits/berries and chocolate chips are dicier and can cause a "sticker" or "pickout". Watch your temps if using those additives... Waffler beware! Just what I've experienced.

What we really need is a someone with a great sourdough starter....a pain to keep it going especially if you don't use it all the time. Doug

Julie, nothing wrong with Bisquick. I've tried several different mixes but adding the right ingredients will help make them even better.
To make them a little crunchier, add an egg and a tblsp of oil to each batch. A tsp of sugar helps too. I always try to have whipped cream and berries on top as well. Yummm..

If you take a minute to whip up an eggwhite or two they are crispier. Of course I like the Belgium style (that doesn't look right :QM )

(EDIT - of couse I wouldn't do this for a crowd!)

I love the dry egg whites from King Arthur flour (.com) They whip up really well.

Just another crispy direction. Am trying to get away from Bisquick type because I need about 1/2 cup of syrup for them! Not that I mind!!!!! ....but not a good idea.

It has been raining long and hard here....can't wait for Ike to bless us, too. Finally (HOPEFULLY) got everything patched up on our family room ceiling. The last "gift" from the amazing ice storm last Dec. Glad it's not raining in on me!!!!!!!
