A while back I spotted some Martha Stewart cast iron casserole dishes on deep deep discount. I picked them up simply as decoration for my trailer. today I was at the store and spotted some blackberries. Time to test those puppies out.

I will have the "big pot" of cobbler and take the red ones to the IDOS convention in Dana Point tomorrow to have Joannne try it.

there is a quarter in the lower left so you can get an idea of the pot sizes. One pack of berries filled them all. :D

I put a couple of layers of berries in the bottom, poured cake mix on top, added butter bits all over, poured in Sprite to the top, out in a 350 oven and cooked until they smelled good, about 50 minutes.

May Co had the dishes on sale for a long time but I cannot find them any more. They can be found on e-bay but not for $9 a pair incl taxes. :o

If you live near a Marshalls or a TJ Maxx or a Tuesday Morning, keep your eyes open. I've seen these small cast iron casseroles (both ovals and rounds) in orange, red, blue and green.

Believe me, it was really really really hard to resist the blue ones when I saw 'em in Marshalls a month or so ago, but I'd just scored a number of pieces and was ready to stop. Now, seeing them full of cobbler...well, if I could get off the couch today, I'd be heading down to the Marshalls at top speed!

I think I'll be making a little bitty cobbler in my 3/4 qt Camp Chef, to go with the pork shoulder that's braising in the oven right now.
