Where to look for more photo's of many classics

Postby Ron Dickey » Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:13 am

If you look in my album you will find trailers I have seen in my area and I will try and add more I have many in my computer, and I would like to thank Mike for teaching me an opertunity in leaning and teaching.

if your are looking what designed out of the past.

Here in California at least the coast we do not get snow and so salt does not distroy them as fast.

Even the old old style of mobile homes are hear some real classics.

Many of us in the forum have such pictures form Cassic Trailer gatherings and in back yards and towns we drive through. Much of the southwest have old trailers sitting in lots or by abandand houses. That and Andrews drawings, he has quite a collection of ideas.

Having seen Dougs standie and stood in it as well. I have also seen and stood in the Maxie Tear. A dual axel trailer with port hole windows built by Jerry from the forum before this one.

mostly ads for trailers out of the 20'a and 30's

and then there are the trailer books you can get through your books store or maybe even the library.

So if you would like to see a boat load of vintage trailers here's what you want to do.
Go to the sistersonthefly.com site.
Click on Caravan trailers.
There you go enjoy.

Say Ron, if you're looking to get rid of that Shasta astrodome in your MIL's backyard, I'm sure you could find a buyer over at the Vintage Shasta Forum at proboards ... there are a couple looking for that same model! :)

may 19-22 Pismo cl. will be the annual antique trailer gathering. Put on by a group that shows full size to teardrops. I always find Gage there.

Here is a site with some of those trailers.

Now I will get into my favorite of all trailers.
Image
It started out simple and cute but like all things it got bigger and ugly.
Image and became Image
it was the first 5 wheel in my book. He used an Airplane wheel on it's side and the trailer hitch became like an axel
Image Image
Image
Though it seemed to be more a taxi then a camper it lead to many other travel trailers of the future.
Image
it was known as the Curtiss Aerocar Land Yacht but offered commercial uses as well venders used them as show cases for products on wheels
Image http://cdn.airforums.com/forums/attachm ... 1174091938
it offers idea in building a trailer Image some pictures are so big I do better to give you the web site.
http://bentley.umich.edu/research/guide ... visual.php from the univ. of Mich.
If one could combine one of these with say an Airstream inside it might still be on the road. I think what really killed it was they began to make cars to pull it and out priced themselves.
It was called the house trailer, the Curtiss Aerocar Land Yacht Company, which designed, manufactured, and helped popularize motor homes.
can' leave with out a video of one. http://www.examiner.com/video/back-porc ... ss-aerocar

Ron -

Really enjoyed the photos. I've got a question re the Curtiss Aerocar. I recall seeeing one in an old black and white movie but don't know the name or the actor - my recollection he was a writer living and working out of the Aerocar. I searched IMDB for movies of the era with Cary Grant and Ray Milland but haven't found a match.

Do you or anyone else know anything about the movie?

A site worth looking at if you want to design the inside of a home made standy or standup trailer.
It take a little while to load up but well worth it.

http://cotedetexas.blogspot.com/2011/10 ... style.html

The inside of the trailers makes one want to go just one step further.

You will enjoy this.

Ron ;)
