It's been a long day out in the hot sun, standing on the hot asphalt.

We glued in the last front panel (the one under the window panel). We also glued in the two top panels, one on each side of the fantastic fan, after framing it in to the final size of 14 1/4" square.

We did a little bit of sanding on the doors, and glued the woods strips on the top of the door. A little more spackle and some sanding and they will be ready for canvas.

Then we worked on building the hatch... Here you can see the notches for the spars...

Spars are glued in...

Enough work on the hatch for one day; but you can see the foam is already cut...

I also glued in the foam corners for the windows. I'll trim them a bit more tomorrow.

Hey Glenn,

I think I'm am going to try your trick with the hot air gun and bend the foam, and see how much it retains the bent shape.

Mike...

P.S. Glad you like the hatch design! :D

Mike, try heating both sides at once and bend a little area at a time ,inside and outside the bending area ..... You can feel the foam "give" when it's bending , and if you hold or clamp it in place till it completely cools , it'll stay right there... Keep the heat gun moving , and it won't burn . Good Luck !!! Good Bending !!!

Spent the whole day outside without much to show for it...

We've got spackle all over the place...

Image

and I made a giant boo boo... Didn't have a solid mount for the foam on the bottom of the hatch. So I had to hand whittle out a rabbet, 3/4" x 1 1/2". I'll glue in a special spar tomorrow...

Musta been the beer... :tipsy:

That'll buff out easily enough. Looks like good progress to me.

Failure to fully think ahead. Don't you hate it when that happens? :fb That's on a par with the hinge block mod for my hatch prop. At least this won't show.

 Start with a piece of foam and buff out anything that doesn't look like a teardrop. :R

I didn't think it would be such a long day today, but, it was!!! :o

Early this morning I fixed the bottom of the hatch. Then we did some spackling, and some sanding. Then we canvased the doors

Image

Next we started the canvas on the ceiling. What a pain... that's hard work..

Image

Then we bailed out and went for the easy! We canvased the roof. Yea, I like it.
