I need more compact, has to go back to a very flat, firm surface for sleeping.

Those Kickstarter wind sock hammock beach things might be good for the lounging part, but they do deflate in a few hours and likely wear out quickly.

I visited the Foam Factory and bought a 5" firm mattress (with a cover) for ~$200. It was cut and covered in about 1/2 hour. The business sells many foam products - mattresses, pillows, orthopedic cushions, etc, and will custom cut and cover for you. The life is about 5-8 yr of daily use, so I expect it will last a reasonable period time.

We bought a 5" firm queen size mattress from foam factory with cover mailed to us and shrink wrapped to fit the box. Should you do this open it INSIDE the tear, it was an experience

Hmm, somewhat like opening the life raft inside the airplane? Oh, I forgot to mention that shipping is free from Foam Factory for orders over $75.

How heavy are the Foam Factory mattresses? I assume it varies by type of foam. They look nice but I know our old memory foam mattress was SUPER heavy.
