And a friend on facebook just gave me an idea for a Thrifty insulation under the canvas … Bubble wrap …
Plausible !!!

I've been looking into radiant barrier insulation (mylar faced bubble wrap) for a fabric covered, skin on frame style construction for a lifting roof build. The reflective insulation does a good job reflecting heat on a sunny day. It should make an unheated camper more comfortable on a cold night. It's not great if you are heating the air; it's R value is low.
There's a difference between reflecting radiant (IR) heat and resisting conduction of heat (R value).

Reflectix, aka mylar faced bubble wrap is not an effective insulation **at all**.
R-value is how you measure true insulation effectiveness, this stuff is very close to ZERO.
With a large sealed airspace to the outside, mylar reflecting side pointing out
it can help prevent inbound **radiant** energy from entering the living space.
But those required conditions are not suitable for a mobile context.
Does nothing retaining heat pointing inside.
Any plastic does the "vapour barrier" function of sealing against convection.
The bubble wrap does nothing.
