Put it this way , I painted some signs for a local Music store on “ sign board “ plywood , coated with the gesso base and using acrylic paints for Artists ... It lasted 10 years on the building outside in the rain and heat , at the end it got a little chalky and could have been restored had the store not gone out of business.. The Latex exterior house paint on my house has lasted 12 years and is only due now for a re-paint ... Works for me ...


I know , I mentioned this before in the Big thread , a long time ago in a Galaxy far away ...

I am building a project from foam and was looking at coverings today.I looked at some material that was an open weave like old towsacks were made from , it was tough ,couldnt tear a piece of it . and pros or cons to this type material with the TB11.

Be sure to check your local fabric stores .... I keep finding Nice Heavy canvas on sale for 5 USD a yard... Nice stuff too ... I’m stocking up ...

Here's a link to an Aussie restoration on a 1959 'vintage' homebuilt caravan
that used calico [like a lightweight canvas] and paint to waterproof the roof.
It's what they call a "Bondwood" - a caravan [ a TT or TTT] that is skinned in
plywood and that uses paint as the exterior finish. It also has a large roof
hatch for ventilation [vs a roof vent like we use here] which is quite common
in the older caravans there,

Page 1 shows pics of the roof and hatch as they found it and then stripped
them. Page 2 has pics [quite a few] of reapplying the calico and/in paint on
the roof and hatch. Be sure to look through both of the pages entirely as the
pics/info is spread out throughout them.

This is the most extensive photo documentation of this technique that I've found looking around the
web so far, so I thought It'd be useful here.

Suggestion:
How about changing the sticky title to something like:
"Canvas /Tarp Suppliers and Application techniques/Methods"
so that all that type of info can be located in one place?

I've come across some vintage trailers in sad shape much like the one shown, during my drives around rural Nevada but I never thought I would want to take on a project like that. A lot like homes, remodeling is sometimes harder than a new build. Quite a project there. Much more ambitious than I am. Good Luck and Godspeed! Cheers!!!

Don , Everybody lately has been using latex paint or primer to attach and seal the canvas ... It’s probably the best so far ... cheap too ... No need for Poly , save that for waterproofing any wood bits you have ...

Where is the seam in the HF dropcloths? Middle of the 15 foot length or the 9 foot width?

after cussing that seam, I should remember it better, but I think it was in the middle of the larger dimension.

We were discussing weed control cloth as an alternative to canvas... Polypropylene... Tough stuff , and supposedly conforms easily to shapes ... White for easy painting over, and comes wide too ... no seams ... Not too expensive .. Just FYI ... http://www.catalogclearance.com/product ... erpro.html

Walmart is selling camo burlap 52" x 12 ft for 13 bucks in a sporting goods section. That would look too cool with a clear base paint or epoxy layup
