GPW, I think you would be fine to raise the cabin on a "sub-frame". It might give you some other options for mounting to the frame as well.

Get some framing 2 x 3 s and then use some tb3 and long deck screws to assemble and then coat with the black stuff and bolt it to your trailer frame and then take deck screws and screw your cabin floor to the framing and you are solid secure and already water protected within an hour or two.

trailer looks great I didn't realize you didn't have a window in the door is it stuffy inside?

I am right in my thinking this has sat outside all summer aren't I?

as Maxwell smart would say "missed it by this much".

speaking of the cone of silence I'll bet the foamies are quite inside.

XXX... Maybe ??? depends if it gets sold or not .... (the wife’s idea )
Pete , the window on the other side and the roof vent provides pretty good ventilation so far ... haven’t lived in it yet ...
Yes , built outside , stayed outside save the several weeks in the studio ... No problems to report ...

Verna , I saved some of the paint ... just in case
a Name ... HMMM??? Not yet ....

I’m just so glad to have it so close to being done !!!! I must be the slowest builder on the forum ...

GP, that looks great on the trailer!

Slow builder? Well you have the 3rd (?) completed foamie around here so you're making pretty good progress I'd say! The way my builds been going I'll be lucky to camp in it by Aug...

Now I'm waiting to hear the first about the first trip! :)

I know ... we can tow it around for a while on different streets (good and bad) , see how it rides (no beer ) :o Bring it in the back yard and spend the night .... I can even make a little campfire ,roast some potatoes on a stick ,sing camp songs , play my harmonica (neighbors are far off and "understanding" )... it's my yard , plenty of downed limbs to get rid of .... might need it too , been chilly here ... Got my blanket , may have to bring the dog .... I'm sure the wife will have No part of this ....

Eagle could you imagine this ever turning into a MONSTER thread , all started about some cheap waterproofing and Thrifty trailer building .... who knew ??? :o I must confess there was a modicum of OT conversations ... about Dogs ... and other things ...

RE: Camo Foamie on HF Frame

Postby mezmo » Wed Dec 07, 2011 9:23 pm

Hi GPW,

Looks like they were made for each other! Were They? I can't
remember - and too lazy at the moment to look back!

Anyway:

Go ahead and use the "super shims". It seems the most direct
and simple solution. Here I'd think you could use some PT lumber
in this case w/o any concerns as it'd be outside the envelope. Or -
maybe you could find some cypress or cedar - any naturally rot
resistant wood. Since only a small quantity is needed it shouldn't
dent the budget very much.

Very close to "almost completed".

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

Oh yeah. 'At dog'll hunt...

I can't see any reason why the shims wouldn't work. Just goop it up and bolt'er down good.

Unless,of course, you plan on pulling it a hundred miles an hour, then all bets are off. :)
