Wonder what your brother would think if he came for his trailer and it had a teardrop sitting on it.

I think you are right about how stiff the foam can make a structure.

Today I attached the sides to the floor and added about half of the roof. I decided to try out the construction adhesive made for foam by Locktite. Seems OK but the Gorilla glue might have been better. I'll let you know how well it holds after it is completely cured. I'll be adding more pictures tomorrow or Sunday. The point is, with just half of the roof added, the structure is starting to feel rigid without the benefit of the skin yet.

GPW, You'd be proud of me . When I coated the floor with asphalt paint I remembered to leave raw wood around the edges to glue the cloth to. I was paying attention.

amazing isn't it. can't wait to see those pics.

Hey GPW,

thanks for the compliment. I'll have some pics up later. I am home this weekend so I'll get some work done.

Eagle,

I think that your trailer looks great! Funny thing. I am an amateur woodworker and I will see every flaw in my work and actually point them out to people when I show them a project. My family takes great delight in ribbing me about this.

have fun

Sometimes we seem to dwell on the flaws and ignore the overall Goodness... :o Just don't point them out ... most will go unnoticed ... Flaws are a "learning experience" ... learn not to do that again ..

OK I decided that I did not need a hatch at this time, however, because of the way I built, one could easily be added should I feel the need.

I decided to try the construction adhesive made for foam board.

Held the foam to the lauan very well but takes a long time to cure glueing foam to foam.

In the front for the 2 foot radius I had to kerf the 2 inch foam about every 1/2 inch. In the rear I kerf cut the foam every 1.5 inches.

I used screws with fender washers for temporary clamping force and duct tape to prevent accidental cracking during application.

I cut the door opening and glued in an oak door frame.

I have to decide on windows. I may make some to keep in the thrift mission.

Sorry Eagle,

Too many hobbies stuffed in my garage for that! You'll probably not see the whole until it gets mounted on the trailer outside.

Hey All,

Thanks for the compliments. Today I built a window frame for the awesome window that my wife found for me at one of her suppliers. I skinned both sides of the trailer and added an extra strip of fabric over both seams on top. Tomorrow I hope to finish the skinning. We'll see what else I can get done. So far my total expense is around $330 including the trailer. I still need paint and one drop cloth fabric. I will have to buy new tires for the trailer also. Should end up with a very light basic teardrop camper for about $400! Thanks to you guys and all the great ideas.
