Our Foamie Build

Postby joy » Fri Sep 30, 2011 7:57 pm

We started our foamie yesterday. Tim has the steel frame cut and welded. It will be 14' long, 68" wide and 6 'tall. We're going to re-use the axle, wheels, windows and tongue from the trailer we built last yr. It is a great trailer but too heavy for our Trackers to pull so we're starting over. We've been reading these threads and welcome any comments and/or suggestions.

HOOOOOORAY. Yet another convert to the Foamie side!!! Your build will be even longer than mine and I thought I had stretched things!!! Can't wait to see pics....

In the Beginning

Postby joy » Sat Oct 01, 2011 9:57 am

I posted a couple of pics in my album of progress so far. From now on I won't go to the garage without my camera.
We used our first tiny trailer several times and loved it. It was warm and pulled great over trails and through deep sand. The Tracker pulled it through but we want to lighten it up so I can haul more rocks. (Tim will probably comment on that) We're making it longer so we'll be able to get in out of the weather and be comfortable. A lot of our camping is early spring and fall in the UP of MI so it gets very cold and wet.

I'm having trouble uploading more pictures. Not much progress on the trailer but Tim does have the frame welded and painted, the tongue modified and painted. We picked up material for the floor 3/8" ply, 2" foam, 1/4" ply and 1" x 8" boards which he'll rip to size.
We built a model a couple of months ago, too, so when I figure out how to upload the pictures I'll post that, too.

Joy, upload the pics to your album , then copy and paste the address in the reply ... Using the Img button above ... ................................^ You may have to re-size them to fit ... Does that make sense ?

Progress

Postby joy » Sat Oct 08, 2011 3:34 pm

I've uploaded a few more pics. Tim has been working hard on the frame and floor. We're carefully keeping track of the weight since our first build weighed in at 1350#. This should come in under 900# (we hope). So far the frame, tongue, axel and wood shown in pictures weigh a total of 459#.Image

More pics in album.

Thank you for all the comments every one. The plan is to put the floor back together lay the deck on so i have a work table to glue up the side walls. The walls will be two layers of 1" foam with the seams offset. The front and back wall and roof will be 2" foam with spars for the roof vent. If all goes as planed that should be done by sunday and I do not have to work over time :worship:
