Some more updates to #5

Tested fitted the back wall after cutting out.

After the test fit it was time to cut out the door. I had already canvased the inside wall so I marked my door pattern out.

Then I cut out a small channel for the hot wire to follow.

I have been trying to find a hitch that was going to work well for this project. In most cases the hitches I have seen on other builds were home grown. There are a few common hitches that attach to the rear axle and they are easy to find. I needed something that attached to the seat post or a bracket that came out behind the rear tire. There are a few of those out there, but they usually proprietary and cost quite a bit. I was watching a person in Europe that showed this hitch briefly in his video and so here it is. They are a bit hard to find to get to the states, but it is a nice sturdy hitch and should work fine for this build.

That is a real slick hitch. Far nicer looking than a lot of the ones that mount to the rear triangle.

Currently there is a guy building a bike trailer like yours in the foamie section on FB you might want to check out. It's very similar to what you're doing.

I have caught bits and pieces of the build. I tend to stay out of FB especially the foamie thread, what a disaster....

Sounds like you are looking for something more slick, but like you are finding it seems like most commercially manufactured trailers use proprietary couplings. This piqued my interest so I poked around a bit myself.
Dont know if you saw this one. Seems fairly simple to assemble without needing to weld.

Hi George,

Haven't heard from you in awhile. Did you finish #5?

Take care,
Tom

No. Caught Covid in early September and blew 5 weeks in bed. By time I recovered and got caught up with everything else I had to do there was no time to work on #5. Too cold now. Hope to hit it hard in the spring now. Thanks for thinking of me. George.

Thanks!

We were more worried if my wife got it since she is type 1 diabetic. She faired pretty well considering. She was back at work after the 14 day quarantine. Put me down a bit longer than expected, but pulled through fine.

Hope you're well. I've become recently-obsessed with trying a build like this, and really like the design you came up with. Thanks for posting the pictures that you did.

Do you happen to recall the name of that small hitch you found?

Were you able to finish this build? Any tips/hints if I was aiming to copy you? :)

Ah, perhaps "Ventura Zinc Coated Bicycle Trailer Hitch for seat tube or seatpost clamp" (didn't want to post a link that looks like spam since I only just registered here!)
