Jack, hint hint 8)

Perhaps this will help you out.
http://www.realcajunrecipes.com/search/searchresults.asp?Keyword=Gumbo

If you don't have access to the stuff of Kitchen sinks you can get Zatarans Gumbo in a box, (sorry all) and add frozen gumbo veggies, meat of choice and maybe some tomatoes if that is the way you like it. Make it hot with Louisianna Hot souce. Might be hot enough.

's the iodine ... PITA, this allergy. I even have to be careful about non-shellfish now, and use kosher salt.

There is no telling what Madjack might slip into a pot...crawdads, catfish, greens he collected from the edge of some farmers ditch, spices of unknown origin, gator tail....and he is likely to walk up to you, generously offer you a bowl with the traditional southern hospitality (that you can't decline), and enthusiastically ask you "What do you think????"

and the problem with that is?????
I like the flavor of okra in gumbo but just don't like the okra itself too..I just use a strainer if i have to. I'm also not too big on "crunchies" in my tator salad lol. and yes gumbo can be gumbo without okra. Connie can't wait untill the morning low dips below 80* so she can have an excuse to cook up a big ole pot of gumbo.
Oh and Jack........some cajuns think anyone north of I-10 could be a yankee lol.
OK............now I'm hungry :(

PS. Maybe someone can get Connie to bring one of her world famous carrot cakes. They are yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmyyyy!!!!!!!
yes.........world famous, we had a meet once with friends we met in a chat room (no they aren't all axe murderers and perverts) One guy came over from the UK, and he still goes on about her carrot cake!!!....IS IT THE END OF OCT. YET???????????........NUB.....
File' is hard to come by here.

Sherrie
Not if you know the source! Just find a wild sassafras tree (plentiful in Nothh AL), remove a bunch of leaves, dry, crush into powder.

Voila - File.

Now I wanna know how you made the hyphen over the 'e' in 'file'.

I couldn't resist chiming in.

Here is some background info:
"The word gumbo derives from a west African word meaning okra. African slaves brought okra seeds to America. That brings up 2 points:

1) If it doesn't contain okra, it's not a gumbo. It's a stew.
2) If you know a racist who likes gumbo, enlighten that ignorant person.
