As a spinoff to the "How much is gas in your area?" thread, I thought I'd post this little poll up, since I just eclipsed my car payment with my monthly gasoline expenses.

This, of course, assumes that you HAVE a car payment. If not, don't skew the poll results by answering with the only poll option that could possibly fit your circumstance.

The car payment is more (for now).

Just because I got the new truck I have higher car payments. Prior to that, I haven't had a car payment in about 10 years. Which explains why I bought a new truck.

No Car Payments... Don't own one.
No truck payments either... All paid off, plus TDN bought a little erand runner pickup and keeps it at my house and I get to drive that quite a bit.
It's way better on gas mileage than the glass truck...
Woulda brought it to the Dam, but the cast iron wouldn't fit in the smaller truck.

Ain't got no stinkin' car/truck payment.

My car payment is higher.
I got rid of my gasoline burner and replaced it with a diesel one. Getting 50 mpg with the little jewel.

no car payment on the 2001 Chevy s10--and since I bought it and then got sick and stopped doing a lot of long trips to dog shows, it's only got 60K miles and should go for a long time more. it's a 4 cylinder 5 speed, I get about 28mpg. So the gas bill, even at $3+ per gallon, wouldn't have beaten the car payment I used make. It's been paid off for two years, though.

The payment on my truck is higher, but not by much.

Everybody makes car or truck payments. It's called "maintenance and repair" and those costs escalate after the vehicle is paid off.

Just had to put new tires on Rosie. I got 91,202 miles out of the ones the OEM put on her and figured I was probably pushing the envelope.

My truck is paid off, but my monthly gas bill is high enough that I'm looking at buying a second vehicle for a daily driver (plus my truck has 150,000+ miles on it). The cost of a new small car that gets at least 30mpg plus gas for it would still be less than my monthly gas bill for the truck...ugh! Maybe it's the right time to grab that TDI VW I've been wanting...

No car or truck payments, so that makes the gas more expensive. We tend to save money and pay cash and buy used.

I'm working on a whole "steam" revival....just gotta convert the Ranger to wood or coal, haven't worked the whole smokestack thing into the design yet, and stoking is a bear on a long hill, cruise control is easy...just a bungee cord on the Johnson bar...(no it's not sexual)...hope I can fill with water on the interstates...Doug

Maybe you can work some sort of smoker into the design so you can cook while you drive.

the vehicles are paid off, so fuel is more expensive right now per month. We're actually trying to sell the Torino, that will lower our fuel costs, but then again we are replacing it with a Hemi Magnum to cart the baby and the tear around with, so we won't gain too much in fuel savings. (i guess 22mpg is better than 15mpg :-P )

thankfully as for maintenance and repair costs, we've been lucky, the VW tdi gets an oil change every 15K miles and hasn't needed anything major since last summer. The torino has only had oil changes every 3k miles and new spark plugs and wires since we bought it. The Magnum shouldn't need anything for quite awhile that isn't covered by the warranty.

Damn fuel prices!!!!!!!!

My vehicle is paid off and, cross my fingers, still has some good years to go. It gets about 18-22 mpg. with no trailer. Gas, today $3.55 a gallon, costs more. I wish a Prius could pull a teardrop. 40-45 mpg. pulling a teardrop would be sweet.
