How did you build your walls and why?

Teardrop builders (Benroy is what we're planning on building, but feedback from all other TT builders is definitely welcomed).

We're curious as to why you built which type of wall and why.

Obviously insulated wall is better but I see a lot here were built with just straight plywood.

If you used straight plywood, did you come back later and sandwich in insulation?

8) I made my walls insulated because I needed to be able to handle them mostly by myself. 5'x10'x3/4" would have been very difficult.

Heh, I was looking for that. I was sure there was a thread like this but didn't find it.

Thanks!

Basically mine is solid plywood. I wanted to use Baltic Birch plywood and in the 4'x8' it only comes in 1/2", normally it is 5'x5'. In the end I decided I wanted 3/4" thick and wanted a stained & vanished look inside and members said other wood would do that better. I bought regular birch 1/4" to glue on & Doug H. suggested with a seam I could make the grain go up & down instead of going sideways which we did.

I used 3/4" birch plywood for my walls because I figured the extra insulation was not needed down here, it was a lot simpler to build that way, and if 1/2" ply was good enough for the originals, 3/4" ply would certainly be good enough for mine. I've been using it for over two years and 18,000 miles so far with no regrets.

My 5x8 is a hybrid. I tried to go cheap and dirty so I cut my 5'6" x 10' profile out of 3 sheets of 4x8 7/16 th osb. stood vertically. These were attached to a 2x4 ribbon just below the 3/4 osb floor. I cleated a 1x4 at the floor to carry part of the wall weight inside and added stiffner 1x4's at every joint and 2' o/c elsewhere. A 1x4 was added at the top edge cut to fit the profile. The cavities remaining were filled with 3/4 foam board. It is now ready for inside treatment as soon as wireing is completed. Exterior osb is a subsiding for the final exterior treatment. I have found a source for 1/4" 4x10 bronze lexan panels I am going to experiment with this as the exterior treatment and roofing material.

P.S my flip out " u " shaped kitchen was roughed in yesterday and it works.

I insulated mine, 1/2 outside 1" insulation and 1/4 inside, built in Utah. Where the winters get cold, thought I might use the TD after retirement, and you never know when the occasional Alaska trip might come along..Jim G 8) 8)

I built mine insulated but it functions more like a composite panel. The sides are 1/8 in ply, the framing is 1X lumber and the insulation is 3/4in rigid insulation. Each component by itself is very weak but when put together, it makes for a very strong and lightweight panel.

Built mine from 3/4 plywood. Wood is the best insulation.
The impossable just takes longer & cost more.
