Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I noticed that Joanne's Awesome Wiring Diagram calls for 12VDC only. There are other diagrams later on in that thread which bring a converter into the picture to convert shore power over to 12VDC and I get the feeling that most of the setups are based this way.
I really like the idea of also using an inverter to have limited use of some appliances when shore power isn't available, which has me thinking about the way I'm going to go with my electrical layout.

I'm planning to use DC for lighting and ventilation. AC for Air Conditioning when available. Of course if I know I will have AC or am carrying the generator I might bring along a small microwave and the battery charger, oh, and my favorite Bunn coffee maker..... I've had an inverter in my 5th wheel for years now and have yet to use it, I tend to save the battery for more important things than tv etc.

Originally I planned to go with DC only, but since I had the stuff laying around, I installed a battery charger and an AC power strip/surge protector in the galley area.

It is nice to be able to just plug in the power and have the battery charging.

Like all good projects you start off with one idea in mind then you end up wandering away from your origional idea, and then you have a Teardrop. I built a replica of a 1947 Teardrop. In 1947 they didn't have 110v stuff. AC's, Microwaves, TV's etc. Hey it was questionable if they even had Battery power. All I was going to put in my tear was what they had in 1947. That's how I started. Then I found a motor assy. that would automatically lift the galley lid, Then I found a small 12v power converter, huh..so much for being a purest.

Started out just thinking DC, simple. Daughters want air conditioner. Now going with A/C and D/C. Adding a battery charger. May put it on a
spring timer so it will turn off after several hours.

Wire for both, you won't be sorry down the road for doing it now. I am so glad that I did. You can still be a "purist" or a "traditionlist". Trust me if back then they had the stuff that is readily available today like A/C, Small TV's DVD's and refrigerators, etc. they would have installed them as well. Don't let any one tell you other wise, it is human nature to be happy and comfortable.

Len said it all. I wanted to keep my Trailer for Two pure. Keep it as original as possible, 12V system only. Then I added an on-demand water pump, 3 speed reversible vent fan, we also use a 12V electric blanket for those cold nights. The last add on was a trickle charger for the battery.
Don't you just love all of the modifications You still want to be comfortable while camping, so some changes are good.
