We all know about the party being missed but what do you expect. Don't look at the Obama's though. Look instead to the people who did the planning and logistics. I doubt seriously if Obama said he didn't want to go there.

what did you hope to find out with the results?

Auntie M.

His title is "Commander and Chief".

I seriously doubt he didn't know.

But then again the Medal of Honor is such a small thing in Military Circles, I can see how the Commander and Chief could overlook it...

With all due respect, if your assumption is correct, he should fire his handlers...

Mike,

I just want to see, if I am in the minority in my thinking.

Obviously, the majority voted for him so I'm wondering if the majority of the people in our great country feel that this is acceptable behavior from our president.

As a Vet I find it disturbing, and would like to know if I am "out of touch" with what my fellow Americans think about this.

Just seems that the last time we came unglued and held a president responsible for his actions was when Nixon got out of line.

Since then we just go with the flow, hold no one accountable, and as time goes on seem to just be ok with this type behavior.

Are we are on a slippery slope, with regards to our values and morals?

I just want to know that as a nation are we changing for the better?.

 Scary subject to bring up here. Be careful anyone that does respond
We all have opinions on many subjects, but there's a time and place to discuss them.

Your poll question begs a skewed result. Obviously it is wrong to disrespect our heroes.

Like Auntie M stated, who determined the official status of the 10 "official" inaugural balls that Obama attended? Who decided that the American legion MOH ball should not be an official ball? I suspect Obama had better things to do than make a list of balls that he wanted to attend and was not intentionally snubbing MOH recipients.

You should investigate your signature a bit more, that quote, while interesting and attributed to Jefferson, is not a direct quote he made.

Here are Jefferson's quotes on money and banking from the University of VA.

This is the closest to your signature:
I sincerely believe... that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies, and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity under the name of funding is but swindling futurity on a large scale." --Thomas Jefferson to John Taylor, 1816. ME 15:23

Mike,

I agree with you, one would think that is the case.

I guess what really brought this home for me wasn't the article itself, but the replies to the article.

There were a lot of replies that favored this decision, not only on the newspaper site that I posted but on other news sites as well.

As I watch the news and read several boards I cant help but wonder what Americans really think any more, they are shown/told all kinds of undocumented/unproven proven "news".

Maybe they disagree and are afraid to speak out about subjects like this.

Maybe they think this kind of thinking is normal now, or the new way to go.

Maybe the people it offends the most are just being tactful and polite.

Maybe they do care, maybe they don't.

I personally believe this is not a good decision, and should be brought up so all can see and talk about it.

First Thank you for serving. Most people on this board truly believe we owe our service members a life long debt of gratitude.

If you really are angry at the Medal of Honor recipients being dissed then lay the blame on the organizers. You will not be surprised at who they are. You also have to consider the Secret Service and the route driven to all balls. A lot of Balls attended were in the same convention center........They got a few minutes each.

Had I set the agenda I would have attended the Service balls first and the Youth one last. They went all night.

I will leave a request to all---giving your opinion or known facts is always encouraged. Disrespecting others or their opinions is not. Read the rules if in doubt please.

Greg if you are angry at a news report then you certainly should tell them and their sponsors. Blaming the President without facts flys in the face of Truth and Justice. btw---for all we know there was a threat made to the attendees or Obama. Just no way to know. The pen is really mightier then the sword when used correctly and with all facts.

Mark,

I should have asked the poll question a little different.

It should have asked.

Is it ok for the Commander and Chief to Ignore a ball celebrating Medal of Honor Recipients?

I doubt that either way I put it, the question would have gotten different poll results, but I can see how the first question, would make someone un easy to say publicly "yes"....

To the quote:

I got that from a college course many years ago. Just by chance I was on one of the "quotes" sites, a rather large one, and saw it, so remembering it from school, and given the times we are in, I decided to use it. Normally I use a quote from Washington.

A little research shows that:

Update: Shortly after we posted this story, we heard from Josh Earnest of the Presidential Inaugural Committee. He told us that the president only attended the 10 official balls organized by the PIC. (The Salute to Heroes is organized by the American Legion and is unofficial.) But, Earnest told us, "in order to show due respect to the Medal of Honor winners, they were special guests at the Commander in Chief's ball," which the president attended early in the evening. Earnest didn't know how many Medal of Honor recipients accepted the invitation to the Commander in Chief's ball, which is primarily targeted to military personnel, but added that the PIC also subsidized hotel rooms and provided ground transportation for the recipients while they were in DC. We've updated our answer summary accordingly.

-Jess Henig

Correction, Jan. 30: We originally referred to Medal of Honor recipients as "winners." The correct terminology is "recipients."

http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/d ... ients.html

So, while he did not attend the ball. MOH recipeients were invited to another ball that the President did attend.

By the way, he didn't attend these balls either:
_Congressional Black Caucus Inaugural Ball at the Capitol Hilton.

_ Creative Coalition Inaugural Ball at the Harman Center for the Arts.

_ Recording Industry Association of America’s ball for Feeding America.

_ BET’s Inaugural Ball at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

_ Africa on the Potomac inaugural celebration at Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington , Va.

_ American Music Inaugural Ball at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.

_ Inaugural Purple Ball at the Fairmont Hotel.

_ Human Rights Campaign’s Equality Ball at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel.

_ Inaugural Peace Ball at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum.

_ Impact Film Fund ball.

I guess he was disrespecting blacks, peace, American Music and human rights while he was dissin the Heroes.

Mark.

This is a place to use some tact and have some forum decorum. (I edited out the part where I called you a jackass)

Mark,

This just goes to one of my points.

I read a "legitimate" news article, (as a matter of fact they had a follow up and didn't mention anything from the Presidents publicist, just the reply from the Legion) and posted it for comment.

You have now posted more "legitimate" sources.

So, between "it wasn't his fault he didn't show" and "he did invite them afterwards but we cant tell you how many" somewhere in there lies the truth. Maybe they are both true.

Separating fact from fiction is getting difficult.

The other day on the news a reporter asked him about being a socialist and he laughed it off and went on to the next question, later he had to call back all the reporters to address the question because a lot of people got pretty upset that he didn't answer it.

So is this a pattern?

Once again, I'm just trying to figure out if others see or feel the things I do or am I just "out there" on my own little island.

And just for clarity's sake, its just not this President or the last one, it seems to me that most of the politicians are acting in this way and professional journalists are not doing their job to separate the chafe from the wheat...

Steve,

Thanks, I don't know if I could take a fellow Vet calling me names...

How our Vietnam Vets were treated was disgraceful. :(

Although I posed the question incorrectly, that doesn't mean that I am wrong to question our leaders. I tend to get a little upset when anybody and I don't care who they are, doesn't pay attention to our men/women in service.

With that being said it has got a lot of people looking at the situation to determine for themselves just what really did or did not happen.
