What accent do you have....?

I thought this would be interesting to run this poll. My accent is Southern. But don't be fooled, there are several different types of Southern accents.

There's the genteel southern accent of the Southern aristocracy that sounds like they have butter in their mouth, see Kevin Spacey in the Movie Midnight in the garden of good and evil for an example. There's redneck of course, which sounds like there's crab pinching one side of a person's face (and sort of looks like it too) think Larry the Cable guy.

Then there's people that are just sort of remote, reference Forrest Gump for this type. Then there's God's gift to the English language, the Southern Belle accent. Jodie Foster in Maverick attempts to copy this accent, but the real McCoy is a little bit deeper and slower. There's a twang that is dead sexy to any man born beneath the Mason-Dixon line that we can't resist.

For instance, my Aunt Hazel pronounces my Uncle Charles name as "Challs".

My family is from New Hampshire and I was born In Texas and lived there for most of my life. However, I can alternate between the two accents (eastern - and southern) dependeding on where I'm at

As a life long hoosier I can seem to fit in anywhere. A two year stint in texas as the manager of a grease and oil manufacturing plant I was fully emersed in texas. One day in conversation with a salesman who was very obviously a native Ii mentioned Indiana and he told me I didn't sound like a yankee. I smiled and told him my secret. and I quote..." I just learned to sloooow way down when I talk so you boys can keep up !

I was glad he thought it was funny because that line got me in trouble a couple of time down there.

Uppen Minnisota and Canada would be fun to EH !

I grew up in South Florida and have a neutral accent, however my father is from GA. When traveling in the south I put just enough drawl to keep folk from suspectin I'm from the goven-ment.

Once traveling through Northern GA with a British girlfriend, we stopped at a Cracker Barrel and ordered lunch. Well with my hinted drawls and her south London slang, the waitress wasn't quite sure what to make of us until after lunch I asked for cornbread, glass of milk and a spoon. She brought the order but stayed within eyesight of our table.

To the horror of my girlfriend, I crumbled the cornbread into the milk and started eating it. The waitress strolled over and said "wasn't sure about you all but when I seen you eating Georgia ice cream I knews you's was arlright.

Yay for New Hempsha people! I grew up going to the stowa and buying some tonic. Then back home whaya I pahk the cah in the front dowa yahd.

Although any one who talks with me now would never know I'm from there. Purposely got rid of my accent about 30 years ago (took about 3 years) but every now and then, it creeps back in, much to the amusement of my kids.
