Storing items in galley

Do you store your items in containers in your galley or do you keep them loose in the cupboard? Do they get dusty when not kept in containers?

Our utensils are in a drawer. No dust, very convenient too!

Our utensils will be in one drawer, pots & pans in another drawer. Food items, matches, etc. will be in canisters. A place for everything and everything in its place. Can you say neurosis?

The reason I'm asking is that my partner seems to think that everything should be in plastic containers because the dust from the road will be drawn into the galley.

Drawers, cabinets and any other available space, including the hatch, that could be found. And lots of 2gallon ziplock bags and rubber maid comtainers with snap down lids. Have not had any problem with dust while traveling on the road though.

now that I have a trailer I can answer the question

We have no Galley although drawers might happen.

we are planning to have a cooking area out and away from the trailer.

Had this little drawer thingy laying around so I hung it from the cabinet top. Took out the drawers and used 4 short screws with washers and boom instant drawers. Easy to remove and clean. They turned out to be one of the handiest features in the galley

We have ours in a special 3 compartment bin on the back wall just above the cutting board.
No doors or drawers to fool with, just grab what you want.

...we use a couple of drawers and a couple of cupboards...if you are getting dust in the galley, you will get water and need better sealing.....

I have a drawer that, as far as I'm concerned is dust proof. silverware and utensils go in there. And after a trip all come into the house and go through the dishwasher.

BUT, I always stock the trailer for the summer with some staples.

Coffee, creamer, Sweet & low, some minute rice, Elbow noodles, Cup O Soup, salt & Pepper I have a Spice Wheel and so on.

There all in either a zip-lock bag or a "Tupperware type" container.

And theres a few canned goods I keep on board for a quick overnight "run away trip". Canned Veggies, Dintymore Beef Stew, Spam, Spaghetti sauce ( for the Elbow Noodles), Hormel Chili, A Zatarans Rice Mix...(by the way..Try Zatarans "Red Beans and Rice with diced up Spam, a great quick meal in a Pinch...You can hardly taste the Spam). Or a can of Hormel Chili with a cup of elbow noodles mixed in (I call it Mexican Spaghetti)

I will be doing some galley finishing this weekend I hope ,
So far I had been using a Sterlite plastic 3 drawer unit on the counter and it works so well! utensils, cooking utensils, knives, can opener, etc... and the top drawer is catch-all... matches, pencils, lighter, put the keys, twist ties, rubber bands....

I keep salt , pepper, spice, cocoa mix, drink mix, oatmeal packets... in a rubbermaid with a tight lid, no because of dirt but in case of flooding or a plague of locust....

haha just stupid humor ...

My camp kitchen is a large, rolling tool chest. it is 14.5x24x16.5"H It works so well my step-daughter has dibs on it if I ever give it up. You could even use it in a teardrop, pulling it out when you camp. It only collects dust if you forget to close it after you use it!
