Getting to work if gas hits $5.00 a gal?

Postby Dixie Flyer » Mon Feb 28, 2011 8:16 am

Well.....looks like gas has got us on the run again! No doubt that we're going to hit the 2008 mark again ($4.00 a gal) and maybe more.

I know I probably left off some good poll options, so you can add some more creative ones if you want.
I poked it with a stick..........

26 miles each way to work

Can't walk it

Can't bike it

Not on a bus route

So I guess I will break out the motorcycle
46 MPG is better than 17 in the truck.

Like Bob....55 miles RT, no public trans + I have close to 3K of elevation so won't be doing a bike. My Toyota gets 34 commuting. Doug

:o Mike has to drive to get to customers. Gaserup and well the company pays. Higher cost to electricians...

Me, I will stay home more or take the TD and play longer. One long weekend instead of every day. :( Oh and the Nissan gets 35mpg..

 Probably need that ultra-lite....

I changed jobs two years ago. My commute went from 94 miles RT to 12 miles RT.

Nancy's School is only 6 miles away. This gives me impetus and justification to spend the money to finish up the 72 Saab Sonett which gets mileage in the 30's.

I'm due to trade in my car soon, so will likely be checking out a higher MPG vehicle. Regardless, I will have to drive.

15 miles round-trip. Not a big deal. Just charge more for spays

My trip up and down the stairs of my house won't be effected by gas prices.

I only drive my car two or three times per week. And, I charge most of my customers 50 cents per mile to shoot on location.

9ft commute

Postby GuitarPhotog » Mon Feb 28, 2011 2:12 pm

Since I retired my commute is just from bed to my desk, about 9ft across the bedroom :)

I'm more worried about the gas prices affecting my travel plans :(

Since I've retired I've been offered 2-3 jobs that I would be genuinely interested in.........If I was looking.

I looked into the logistics of all of these jobs and travel and gas prices.

It would really be tough to make a decision....Thankfully, I don't have to.

My weekly travel expenses with Gas & tolls would be over $100 a week.

$400 a month Gas & tolls
$1200 a month for health care
$100 a month for lunches out
$100 a month laundry & uniforms
$150 a month for tool upgrades
$50 a month training upgrades

Forget about the Taxes.....
I can't afford a Job!!

:? :?

Happy trails
