I do 80 miles RT every day.

Walking, bikes, etc just won't cut it. I'm stuck gassing it up...

For seven years I drove 100+ Miles RT. That was when gas was only $2 a Gallon. I had my "Mid-Life Crisis" Quit and now have a 12 mile RT with a bike path being 8 miles of it. I'll do the bike and then get into the company rig that only gets 12 mpg on a good day.

$5 a gallon will cause lots of problems for lots of people. I can't imagine the price of a loaf of bread

Geez, I wish we could get gas that cheap down here. We are paying the equivalent of $5.00 now, with the possibility of more rises. You should be grateful on how lucky you all are.

I stopped going to work in 95' and I'll be darn if I'm going to stop camping. I'll just put it on the credit card and worry about it later. I just won't be driving the wagon or truck very much for awhile

IMO, $5.00 a gal will devastate the country. Most folks will really be hit hard. Particularly fixed income people. God help you if you live on the margin as a lot of folks do.

Myself, I drive 60 miles RT everyday in my 2004 Jeep LJ. I make okay money and I'm not rich by any means and I'll tell you, $5.00 will absolutely cream me.

Fortunately, my wife retires in 10 weeks and that will be a savings since she will no longer have to drive to work. (I will be using what she would've if gas hits $5 bucks for the most part.)

With everything that's going on in the world right now, (Middle East) I believe the next six to nine months is going to tell the tale of what's really coming.

70 miles rt the only good thing is i car pool with my wife she works for the same company. and we drive her car now if i can figure out how to put gas in the other 4 cars, ford 3/4 pickup, ford conversion van, 05 pt cruiser convertible, 49 chevy, 34 ft pace arrow motor home, 27ft cabin cruiser on the river gas who cares about gas its the dam insurance thats killing me , OH crap i forgot about the 47 teardrop and the 57 cardinal and the 51 boles aero trailer and the wife said and you want to buy another trailer???????????? good thing she pays for half the gas for her car

You can save money many ways with a motorcycle !

Wife and I went grocery shopping on the goldwing last summer. We did real well got almost $60.00 worth packed in the pannier box and saddle bags.

I did have one LOL moment...... I looked up and here she comes down the aisle with a watermellon. All I could do is laugh and ask her if she was gonna hug it all the way home.

Gas will cost what it costs. I want to get a little bike/scooter hybrid for my 12km/8mile one-way commute so I don't have to deal with the traffic.

the only issues i have with people deciding that a motorcycle will save on the gas is. Cost of motorcycle, ability to ride the motorcycle, insurance, upkeep, weather depending where you live. the other drivers on the road. i have rode motorcycles for most of my life, road bikes ,dirt bikes , hill climbers, the point i am trying to make is it is not as cheap as many people would believe, and no where as safe as driving a car. i have lost a few freinds from bike accidents and it was not there fault, i owned 3 road bikes up to a few years ago and decided to sell them , i miss riding sometimes but the wife seems happier with my decision

Since I'm "retired" from driving 95 mile RT each day, I have sympathy for those who have to drive to work.

I rode in a car pool for about the last 10 years that I worked. It really helped. With two or three people in the "Pool" it really didn't hurt too bad.

When I had to drive alone, once in a while, I really felt it and it did bother me since I hate to waste money when I can find a better way.

What really made me mad was the fact that I could do the same job from home rather than drive 95 mi RT. That's just "stupid" IMO.

Drive to work - email in- email out - drive home.


I'm really surprised that more people didn't mention car pooling.

80 miles round trip...18 mos until retirement. I will ride the M/C as much as possible!

Round trip in 2010 was 104 miles now its about 6' I began working from home this year. Not only do I save about $500 a month in gas, train, and food costs but I also reclaimed 2 1/2 hours a day. Hopefully more people will have the opportunity to do the same.

I guess with all the bikes and motorcycles there'll be a whole bunch more light weight build threads unless we all start camping in our backyards
