In the vintage camping equipment forum, Steve (woodbutcher) suggested a contest where participants would customize a Coleman camp stove. We liked the Idea and decided to run with it. Several wanted to play, but other things in life prevented some from getting their stoves done in time. We did, however, get three stoves submitted. So now we need your votes to determine the winner. Before you vote, please follow the link to the photobucket album and look at all of the pictures. The details in the full size pictures may help you decide. As the administrator, I have agreed not to vote, so it is all up to you. Take a look, vote and most of all, have fun. That is what it is all about.

The album is here: http://smg.beta.photobucket.com/user/br ... m%20stoves

Voting will be open for 10 days. The participants will be identified once the winner is determined.

This was definitely NOT an easy decision!

I might have to find a stove of my own so that I, too, can customize one for the next contest!

All are very nice ... it was tough to choose. I'm looking forward to finding out who wins AND what kind of person has Cream of Kitten soup in their pantry.

Wow, that was tough. Stove #1 looks like a really nice restoration job with a popular theme, while #2 & 3 really suit the TD/traveling theme. The stickers on #2 appeal to me as being a little more on point, but the extra detail of the pinstriped stiching on #3 make that a really tough call.

Good luck to all who entered!

We have a winner!... Steve (Woodbutcher) takes the top prize with his well traveled suitcase stove.
Dawn (Zollinger) was first runner up with the cream of kitten soup.
Chris (Sonoma ZR2) rounded out the field with the JD 413G.
Nice job all. Now, about that prize I mentioned. Steve, should choose to accept it, I have for you a well used Coleman clamshell case. The black clasp thing is missing from it, but there is a nylon buckel strap that is a perfect fit to hold it closed.

Just let me know where to send it.

Just wanted to add: Thanks to all who voted. Without your help, this would not have been as much fun.

I had a fun time modding the John Deere stove. I finished the stove for the contest but since the contest started the stove became more important. I've dedicated the stove to my Grandmother who passed away last Friday night. Both her and my Grandfather showed me how to enjoy being outdoors and John Deere Tractors. So with this stove in our John Deere themed teardrop I'll have Grandpa's lantern and this stove that was modded for myself but ended up to be so much more.

Chris, I am sorry for your loss. But that stove will always be a fond reminder of your Grand Mother. So much of camping and the outdoors are memories we carry with us forever. I look forward to seeing how it fits into your new teardrop project.

Hey that was fun! Great minds think a like! Who would have thought that Woodbutcher and I had the same idea? Oscar and I had fun working on the stove. He has some more idea's for next year.

I had the same idea too, just didn't get a stove in time.
I had down loaded a bunch of old travel stickers I was going to print up on sticker paper.
I just googled "vintage travel stickers"

It was funny, Eric emailed me his idea and I told him how cool I thought it was. A few days later I had two of them. It is amazing how two stoves with a similar theme can be so different. In a way, I'm glad I couldn't vote. Those who did had a tough decision.

Well we had fun, didn't we. Congrats to Dawn and Chris, both did a great job. My decals were vintage ones I bought without knowing if they would still work after 40 years. I had 3 that came apart in the water. If anyone wants to use them be sure there are no creases at all. If so they will separate. I plan to carry this stove in my trailer and will keep adding decals to it when I find them. Dawn, nice touch with the stitching. I'm going to add that. Makes a big difference, you did good. Chris I look forward to seeing that John Deere stove in your new trailer.
