Doug, Thanks for the invite, :D depends on how soon I can get this Tear finished & time off. I'll put in bulkheads, face frames, shelves & I/4" Red Oak skins tomorrow, spray Monday. Gotta start work some time Tuesday and the Tear needs to go in the garage. I have to drive it around the block to go from shop to garage. I'm building contray to those Kuffle plans and will lay the ceiling on top of the wall build-up, makes the build so much easier and stronger. . Danny

My Blazer pulls the Li'l Guy in OD regularly with no ill effects. As mentioned above, I have to drop the cruise control in hilly country.
You might also check out www.blazerowners.com for more info on them.
Blazers with the tow package include the harness for trailer lights. It should be tucked into the frame in the rear.

Thanks RKH, I had no idea there was a Blazer owners website. I'll have to look under the hitch for the wiring harness. Danny  :D

I have a '98 Honda Passport, identical to the Izusu Rodeo, with 140k on it. In the hills I hit the power button that causes the engine to rev a bit higher (about 500 rpm more) before shifting up. It pulls the Hunter Fat Shadow very well, including the infamous Grapevine in Southern California. I do use the cruise control as much as possible.

 So how fast can you pull it up the Grapevine?

Well, Officer. I'm sure I wasn't going over the speed limit. It must be that everyone else was just going extra slow up that steep grade.

My mighty Dodge hops into OD at about 45 pulling the tear and that's where it stays till I tell it different. Very large tranny cooler.

I will be at the Winternational Drags at Pomona this weekend - Now you're talking some serious clutch heat.

65mph . That's going North, but I bet you mean going South. Yep, going South is up. That's another story. My tear is about 1500lbs and my truck only has about 125 horse power so I get up that hill just a little faster than most of the large cars (big rigs). :?

Have a good day.

I was sent some info about towing with my 4 cyl Honda Accord, and even though I can tow 1000 # , it recommends adding the trans cooler, just to be safe. $100 or less for that is better than $2750 for a new trans.

I have to take mine in soon for one of those big checkups and am going to have them put one on. Mine's a 2001 , I only have two more payments, and 95000 miles... It's just broke in !!!

Gage, Yes I meant south as from Washington. When I was in H.S. in San Diego we would drive the old Grapevine as fast as the car would go, loads of fun then  , got older, got slower, want to hit retirement someday 8) . I have a 4.3 that I’ll tow our tear, I think it will do just fine. Danny

The Grapevine is in it's third design. Where the new/old grapevine was two lanes going both ways and a gas station near the top, now that part is four lanes going south and no gas station. It's down at the bottom of the hill now. The north bound side has it's own way down and is much straighter. Still they have 'run-a-ways', and there are two truck escape ramps on the down side.

Have a good day.

Gage, I drive the Grapevine every couple of years so I too have watched it's changes. It use to give me the willies going down hill, north, on the old 4 lane hwy on those curved woop-ti-doo's next to all those 18 wheelers at night. I'm glad those days are over. Danny

Just towed a 4X8 U-haul from Central TX to Central FL. Just rolling hills (not steep at all) I kept my 4-cyl Mazda in 5th gear most of the time. Did between 65-75 (GPS verified) most of the way. My 12 year old truck with 191K did just fine.

I tow with my 2000 Honda CRV. Trailer loaded weighs about 1200 lbs. I added an aftermarket transmission oil cooler even though I could find no recommendations or requirements to do so. Since it is hilly around here I don't tow in overdrive.
