I remove the wheels from my trailer when it is not in use. put it on Jack stands and wrap the wheel and bearings with a plastic bag. I have not purchased any locks for the hitch but will soon.

What do you do to protect for trailer at home and while camping.

I am hearing that camp site theft is up. And have heard motion lights help reduce that, they do not want to be seen.

My trailers have various locks.
But the biggest anti-theft measure is the 70+ lb, 3/8", grade-100 lifting chain and really honking expensive hardened lock.
Sure, a grinder will get through it eventually.
But you're not pulling, breaking, or cutting it any other way.

The trailers are chained together through their frames, and to a railroad tie that has 5 feet buried.

Once I get the new vehicle gate in, and move the trailers out of plain sight, I may not bother chaining them together any more.
But, as of now, they are on the street side of my fence, where someone can back up my driveway and right to the trailers. And it does *not* give me peace of mind, knowing that a major interstate on-ramp is just 1/4 mile away, with a major interchange a mile down from that.

We go camping with a killer calico (the red-heads of the cat world)



Anyone who takes the trailer has to feed her, give her meds, and take her to the litter box just after dark (not a minute before!) every day, rain or shine. (Especially rain.)

She's been known to defend her food against humans, other cats, raccoons, dogs, and other cats.

Don't like thieves, so I have zero tolerance, and act accordingly to protect my (and my neighbors' or friends') property.

At home, in the back, I have:

• 1) A 4.5x10 utility trailer, with heavy-duty cable locks thru wheels, around the axle, then around a large tree.
• 2) My 4x8 squareback trailer in one bay of my 3-bay garage/shed, with a tongue lock attached. In the next bay are push & zero-turn mowers & a wheeled trimmer, a generator, 2 welders,and a portable air compressor (as well as ramps, jacks, outdoor tools). Third bay has my wife's (new-to-her) Lexus, and some of her "antique" furniture. Garage is locked.
• 3) Parked in front of the utility trailer, and two bays of the garage are my five other vehicles, all out-of-sight of the street, behind No Trespassing signs all around (plus a locked gate), with a bright mercury vapor light illuminating everything.

Being retired, I'm nearly always at home, and at my desk, where I overlook the backyard, garage, and parking area. Shotgun next to the window, door within 20 feet. Neighbors are watching out for each other, and we're on a dead-end road with no escape. And, in Texas (and in a red-voting area of it), that should be enough to discourage all but the most idiotic, desperate, or suicidal thieves.

While camping, I'll usually be with my group, all of the same mindset as I have, so we watch out for each other. If I need to leave camp when most others have already left already (out to eat or exploring), I'll lock the trailer tongue and wrap a cable thru a wheel and axle (as I do on the utility trailer at home). But, if I don't take my truck, and go out in a group vehicle, then I re-attach the trailer to my hitch (and then it's blocked into the well-lit camping spot, and you've gotta steal the truck, too...grand theft auto rules apply).

I keep a heavy gauge hardened chain through the wheel and around the frame/leaf spring with a giant lock plus a tongue lock. Home or camping although I'm not worried really at home and never had concerns at the camp site but you never know. I'm home most of the day every day, I have 2 Doberman Pinchers and I live in Texas

Not really top of mind however.
