Hurricane hinge and skin caulk

Postby TallyTear » Wed Jan 11, 2017 8:46 pm

I believe most people use silicon on hurricane hinge. I am not a fan of silicon, thinking about using vulkem 116. Any opinions on running a bead of caulk under edges of roof and walls before installing roof edging with butyl tape? I was thinking about using the vulkem 116 also.

I'm not a fan of either silicone or butyl tape. Under my hurricane hinge and roof edge molding, I used 3m marine sealant. The Vulkem should work fine too.

I was thinking about butyl tape under flat area were screws go but also running a bead of caulk in the corner of roof edging trim. My roof metal is flush to wall but the wall metal is 1/8-1/4 short of being flush to roof. Any options? I would be using Vulkem 116. I also decided to use 3M 5200 under hinge.

I used rope caulk as a bedding compound under all metal parts. It's easy to use, lasts, easy to remove, self-healing. It works similar to modeling clay.
